Chase? Double pull?

Chase? Double pull?

So I applied for the Chase Slate card and got the 30 day message. Called the back door number this morning. They double pulled me on TU and EX. TU was pulled when I originally did the application two days ago. EX was pulled today. Per MyFico, my TU FICO 8 is 630 and my EX FICO 8 is 645. I have opened two Navy Federal cards in the past 6 months. I have a secured US Bank card that I opened 7 months ago and closed. I have a Fingerhut store card that was opened in the last 6 months and I am an authorized user on a Chase card opened within the past year. Those are the only cards that have been opened in the past two years. When I called the back door number this morning she put me on hold after verifying my info and came back and said the application was being declined because too many cards had been opened in the last two years. My question is this, are they using the 5/24 rule because they have to? Or are they just using that as their reason for declining the application because they don't like my profile? With the secured card being closed with $0 balance and the authorized user account not actually being mine, it makes me think they just don't like my profile.

Re: Chase? Double pull?

Chase double pull is pretty normal if you're new with Chase.  They double pulled me TU/EX for Freedom Unlimited in May 2017.

Re: Chase? Double pull?

You have 5 new accounts on your profile in the last 24 months. They denied you because of 5/24. And a double pull from Chase is normal. I applied and was approved for 3 cards and was double pulled each time.

I'd call them back about the authrozed user account, if they are trying to use the 5/24 rule. That account shouldn't count against you. I do think they are using it as an excuse.

Re: Chase? Double pull?

Chase has left a bad taste in my mouth recently.  I had a 12 year old account with a $300 limit.  I called in to cancel, they offered to review my account to see if they could do anything.  They hard-pulled and increased my limit based off what their computer spit back to the rep.  End of discussion.  APR was RIDICULOUS.  Second request during that call: can the APR be reduced? No.  Letter from Chase at end of November: they are closing my account due to inactivity.  No e-mail.  No call.  No notice otherwise.  Hmm.  A $300 limit until November, and then I chose not to swipe the card with my 12 year overdue CLI for less than 30 days?! I didn't call to contest.  I don't care.  Yet I digress.

Chase DOES double-pull on new applications.  Chase HPs for CLI requests.  5/24 is a rule, whether or not it's written, I haven't verified, but I believe it to be so.  If they don't like your profile after manual review, they will reject an application.  They are within their right to do so.  There are several other banks out there...I know, they've all treated me 1,000,000.00 times better and the majority of them were established this year.

It's also normal if you're not new. I talked to a specialist recently. She said that they generally pull TU or EQ with EX as a "backup," although some people get away with only having EX pulled. As far as what gets pulled for whom, she said "we're still trying to figure that out." Smiley Happy But she thought that pulls were based on the state the customer resides in.

Re: Chase? Double pull?

Recently applied (successfully) for a CSP.  Chase double-pulled EQ & EX.

I'm new to them, have one old derog (6-year-old 30-day late), and currently have no non-revolvers reporting.

Given all of that, and the credit line that Chase offered (the highest I've ever received), I'd say that the double-pull was reasonable.  (Indeed, I don't think that a triple-pull is out of line for any issuer advancing credit, unless the first pull is, say, 800 or more.)

Opening 4 accounts in 6-7 months is a lot especially if your AAOA is young. And closing a card doesn't matter because it was still opened so it counts. IMHO, I think you should garden until all your cards age to a minimum of 1 year and try again. But keep in mind that it would be 2 more HPs from Chase, and adding more inquiries on a young credit file is not a good look and may appear desperate to lenders.

On another note, did you ask for a CLI during AR on your NFCU cards at 91 days, 3 statement cuts?
