So last month was the first time I have ever had pre-qual offers on Chase site, for Slate and Freedom. App'd for both, got the Slate denied Freedom "too many requests for cedit or open accounts with us" I thought it was funny because Slate was my first account.
Today I decided to look at the pre-qual site again, and now the Freedom is still showing. I really want the card but don't want to take another inquiry and not get it. Already had two inquiries from last month.
I think you can have Chase reconsider on the auto denials for too many requests? I got automatically denied for Freedom Unlimited the day after an auto approval for Sapphire Perferred for too many requests (even though I had only applied for the CSP that month. I did however open a regular Freedom card last December and had to cancel it immediately because my card wasn't going to arrive in time to close on my house and my lender wanted the card number.) Anyways I called Chase and the rep did the reconsideration, and got it approved. Give it a shot.
Have you tried reconning them? I was successful in doing so last night.
I wasn't sure that I could recon that type of decision, so I didn't. It's been over 30 days now, so if I wanted it I think I would have to apply again.

I do really want it, but I think if I hold off about 3-4 weeks until my util drops considerably, as well as inquiries age completely off and others age past 1 yr that I stand a better chance. Bought a car in May 2014 and another in May 2015. Didn't really realize the effect of inquiries at that time. Also went on an app spree in May 2014 after buying the car, so all of those will be aged completely off as well.
I finally got a hit on the Chase prequal site as well, for the Freedom - I'm guessing that's their "lower echelon" card? I burnt Chase approx ten years ago, so I figured it would be forever and a day to even get a foot back in the door with them.
I've got way too many new cards to app for it (don't they have that weird rule?), and the terms aren't as interesting as some others, but it was cool to see the prequal pop up for the first time ever. I thought I mistyped something for a minute, LOL!
OP, good luck with Chase. Just don't burn them... they have a super long memory.
