Hello Everyone,
I have recently been approved for Amex. I wanted to apply for CSP+Freedom with one HP. I was reluctant to app since Chase requires a well-established relationship before approving CSP. After some research and observations,I pulled the trigger.
Well, to my surprise, CSP was approved with $5000. For Freedom,it gave me a message that reads as " We need to review you application little longer or something like that."
I called backdoor and a lady informed me taht I was denied due to excessive accounts with Chase and too many INQ. I explained to her that I do not have any accounts with Chase and I only have 6 INQ including one from them prior day. Upon my request of Recon, she put me on hold for 3 min and then only to come back at say the denial will remain. I have tried calling three times but no luck. Last time, when I called, the gentle man put me in my place by stating that " You have only Capital One with 300 CL opened in January 2015 ,we just approved you for $5000, we want to see how you managed that before we can extend anymore credit to you."
May I have some suggestion or recommendations on how to proceed;
Should I leave it alone or try calling again for Recon?
I have no lates, no CO, no Derog on my file.
How can I argue that despite having short CC history, I still qualify for Freedom?
Based upon my understanding, even if they approve me for 500 or 1000, it is not going to make a big difference since I have other Amex cards that have higher CL.
I have a very, very thin file, litterally no history of revolving account (3 Months), Pulled EX at FICO 716 with 5 INQ, 3 CC/2 Auto.
AAoA (Only one CC from Capital One that is currently reporting) 3 Months. SL in deferment but opened in 2009.
No Lates, no Derog, No CO.
Income 31K
3 months history and you got CSP!!!
i would say you have gotten your answer and that is wait 6 months and reapply.... you got FAR more than most with such little history... super congrats on the CSP!

IMO, the only shot you might have at the Freedom is if you get them to PC some of your limit off the CSP to the Freedom and see if they will take that. But based on what information you have provided. Your AAoA, new account (with them) and maybe income vs limits may be holding you back.
The other option is to do what he said and garden the CSP for 6 months to a year and show them you can responsibly manage the card then reapp for the Freedom.
Hope that helps
The Chase Rep on the phone was "Sir, I can pull the CSP and extend you Freedom with the CL that you qualify for right now. I assume it will be much lower than what you have on CSP. Is it something you would consider?" I was then looking for a PERIOD in the conversation to terminate the call.
I think he righteously put me in my place.
Why should they give you a second card when you should be glad that gave you one account. Credit is a privilege not a right. It's a business transaction. Don't be greedy. Show them how you responsibly use the card and allow enough time to pass. You have essentially agreed to go on the first date and now complaining because the person won't marry you right here right now. Let it simmer.
The road to great credit requires the patience of Job. But you do have to proactive and agressive in goals and realistic about goals and time frames.
