Definitely wanted to focus on cash back cards and wanted a Chase Freedom since I started my rebuilding journey. Was denied for too many new accounts this year even with low utilization. Was told I had too much credit by the analyst. So if I still want it in another 6-12 months maybe I'll try again, but the conversation really left a bad taste in my mouth with Chase especially after explaining how I utilize all my cards and maintain keeping my spending under control.

I can understand. They are refusing me CLI saying same "I have too much credit"
Im wondering how much is too much
If it was me i couldn't take that decision for an answer NOT JUST YET It's been widely noted, and proven that sometimes (Yes, especially with Chase) that additional Recons after first denial HAVE resulted in an approval after all. The number of recons vary but it may just come down to corresponding with that single ONE recon analyst who can push it thru in spite of previous denials.
What i'm saying is since you already taken the HP hit, there's more to be gained than lost by trying Recon again.
I was recently denied by Chase for too many new accounts and inquiries. The weird thing is that my EX Fico score is 682 here yet the score that Chase came up with was 596. I did not realize they had a different scoring model or I would not have applied yet...
Live and learn, I guess. I have made so much progress since I started working on my credit and scores so I am going back into the garden for awhile longer and hope that I will be in better shape by summer.

I would recon again!
I have 33-35 new accounts this year and 3 of them more towards the tail end of the 33 total are chase!
I also have over 30 inq's on EX which is what they pulled for each of the 3 apps.

More than you have, according to them.
Chase is weird man. I was approved for the Freedom with absolutely no credit as an 18 year old for $200 and have increased my score significantly and have $10000 CL cards but Chase still won't give me a generous CLI. Just got upgraded this week though... to $400 so I know how you feel. Do you have history with Chase? I banked with them for about 3 years before I applied for the Freedom. Like you, I've been left with many sour tastes with Chase. Best of luck moving forward.
Personally I've found that Chase's cobranded cards have been much easier for me to get than cards like the Freedom. I got my foot in the door with them with the Chase SW card and a few months after was able to get the Chase AARP card as well.
