Thank you all for your responses and the great information, I really appreciate it. It sounds like it is possible, but might be really tricky. Since Chase does not have secured cards, I think I am going to try to get one of their co-branded cards first, and wait until the end of the year to do so. I plan to apply in December or so and not apply for anything else prior to that. That way I will have no inquiries in the last 6 months and only 4 in the last 12. Also, I will make sure to have my utilization extra low at that point so that the report looks as clean as possible. I also might try to the CD and Checking Account route, I think that is a good idea that might help build some goodwill with them so that I can eventually get that sweet, sweet companion pass!
Thanks again to everyone for all the help, the community and information available here is pretty amazing!

These were not sold to a third party, they stayed with Chase the entire time. However, I have never been approved for any chase card since even though my scores have resulted in various AMEX, Cap One, and Discover cards. It seems as if their internal algorithms flag any past history with them.
When ever you decide to apply for a Chase Card and you are denied you should call recon and speak to an analyst for reconsideration. The fact that you repaid them in full would look good to an analyst.
