Chase Pre Approved Offer - Review Message

I got an email from chase saying I was pre approved for the chase slate edge. The verbiage said "
This credit card is available to you if you do not have this card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months." When I logged in to Chase I had multiple Pre Approved offers for a variety of cards. I decided to apply for the Freedom Unlimited because this was one of the cards listed. After I submitted my application, I was notified they would have to review it. It looks like they pulled Experian which is my lowest score right now at 684. The rest are above 700. I also have an old charged off account with them from 2017. In my gut I feel like this will be a denial, but I've also heard the chase pre approved offers are pretty solid. What do you guys think? Should I have applied for the slate edge instead?

assuming you were also green star pre-approved for the unlimited, this is extremely common and can likely be cleared up with a quick phone call where they just confirm you're the one that applied

I'd call, ask if there was any information needed to process your application and they should be able to get you squared away

Re: Chase Pre Approved Offer - Review Message

If there was an administrative issue i.e. if your previous chargeoff with them triggered a denial it wouldn't really matter which card you applied for.

The thing with Chase preapprovals is that applicants do find out the hard way that they unfortunately don't screen for every senario for which their default response is to deny the application, the classic example is if a  BK7 is reporting even if Chase was not IIB.

Try calling the automated response line to check the status of your application;  if you get a 7-10 day response transfer to an customer service representative and ask them if there is anything they need from you to continue processing the application.    It could be that there is a pending denial but it could also mean that they need to verify that it was really you that applied for the card (not uncommon for them nowadays).  If they tell you that you were denied, go ahead and ask for reconsideration and be prepared to make your case why they should appove you.

If you get either a 30 day or 14 day notice I'd suggest you sit tight, only talk to a CSR if you get transitioned to a 7-10 day response.

I was given the 14 day notice using the automated system.

Re: Chase Pre Approved Offer - Review Message

@coldfusion Chase fraud prevention reached out to me by phone to verify my identity and asked if I applied for the card. They said they would continue to process my application and placed me on hold. After the hold they said the application would continue to process and they would provide their decision in 1 to 2 weeks. I called the automated line again and now it is saying 7-10 business days.

Re: Chase Pre Approved Offer - Review Message

Magic 8 Ball says "Cannot Predict Now:".

Check the online status again late Monday to give Chase' left hand a chance to confirm what the right hand did.  Chase manual reviews are normally worked M-F EST/EDT business hours.

14 days  does essentially mean a successful initial screening pending final review by a decison-maker and while definitel not absolute more often than not translates to a positive outcome.  As referenced upthread 7-10 days would be consistent with an anti-fraud verification that it was you who applied so the different teams may not be immediately in sync.

Even if you ultimately get a denial you can still call in and request a reconsideration; it isn't rare for a successful recon and it will only cost you the time it takes to make the phone call.

Good luck!

No I think the Slate is a junky card. I think you were right to go for a more useful card.

BTW @coldfusion 's advice is spot on.... you can 'take it to the bank' (no pun intended). Chase is funny that way. It's a frequent occurrence that applications get stuck in the pipeline for lame 'identification' reasons, and can be dislodged with a brief phone call.
