Chase Recon

I applied for a Chase Slate card to do a BT from two higher interest rate cards. Unfortunately I was declined. I called the recon line yesterday and explained that my main objective was to BT 2 cards on to this new one. She asked the general questions, do I own or rent, much was my mortgage payment, how long have I lived there, income details, etc. She took a few minutes and came back stating that it has went for a second review. I dont know if that is a good thing or not. I checked the auto status line and it is now saying 30 days instead of the dreadful 7-10 days. Anyway have any insight on if this sounds like it might be approved?

Re: Chase Recon

Chase is one of the better banks for recon and 30 days is normally better than 7-10. Sounds like you may have a shot. I'd check the status line again in a few days to see if it still gives '30 days'
Good luck!!

Re: Chase Recon

I can personally agree with Chase being great with recons! I was declined for the Chase Amazon Prime Sig Visa but called the backdoor number and received an instant approval after some smoozing and butt kissing! 😂

Re: Chase Recon

At first when I spoke with the rep she advised of the denial. After I asked her for a reconsideration she pleasantly said that she would be more than happy to review my app for a reconsideration. I then explained that I only wanted to BT two cards into one with Chase and she seemed even more upbeat about the reconsideration since it would be for a BT, which was a good sign to me. I didnt want to seem greedy and ask for even more than the balances of my current 2 cards. Afterall, I was originally declined. She said it could take up to two weeks but honestly if I didnt hear anything within 5 days to call back in.

Heres to hoping for an approval!! 0% into rate to BT would definitely help get my balance down much quicker.

Re: Chase Recon

Keep it up! I've had successful recons with Chase. Remember, a good attitude, a smile that they can hear, and a willingness to be forthright in your answers will get you far. Smiley Wink I've also been denied after a recon call, but didn't care too much for the analyst and so I called back within a few hrs, spoke to someone else and was successful.

Re: Chase Recon

Well I guess I can change this thread to a Chase Recon Failure. It went for a second look and unfortunately today they said I was Declined. The two reasons that I was declined was because my balances on my current cards (That I wanted to do a BT from) is too high compared to the CL and because my debt is too high compared to my income (which my current DTI is around 32%).  I was really hoping I was approved so that I can take advantage of the 0% rate and start paying these down faster. Oh well. Guess I will just have to keep throwing my money away on interest until I can get these paid down.

Re: Chase Recon

Sorry to hear about your Chase denial OP. I don't know your profile but Penfed might be an option for you to do a BT if you get approved on one of cards. You might have a shot if your EQ is 650+ with minimal inqs in the last 6 months.
Best of Luck and hope you're able to avoid those ridiculous interest fees!
