Chase Saphire Preferred after a burn

So yesterday I visited a Chase branch and applied for a Chase SP. Instead of an outright denial, the application returned that usual screen prompt "We need more time to review you application."

Back story;

In 2016, a life event forced me to default on several CC that eventually went CO. CSP was one of them. I never paid them back. It has now fallen off of my reports. Given its UR, it was one of my target CC. Apart from that, I also wanted to test waters as I was assuming to be on a blacklist.

To test that, yesterday I visited the branch along with a family memeber (DFM) to apply for two CSP, one for each of us. DFM currently has only one CC-  Discover It reporting 4K CL. They were an instant approval of 10K.

DFM DP:

EX 08 708

Utiliz 7%

AAOA 8 years

Deragatory Items

NFCU 3K CO 2021 PAID

NFCU 2K CL 2021 PAID

Banker said he is going to call Chase UW on Monday.

Does it make any difference who calls?

Should I call the Chase backdoor or let the application run its course?

I'd let it run its course.  I burned Chase in 2015 when I filed for Chapter 13, and last December they approved me for a CSP with a starting limit of $11,700, and then six months later they approved me for a Freedom Unlimited card with a starting limit of $23,600.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

I called the status line and it says "we will let you know in two weeks about our decision." I dont know if it is dreaded decline.

UPDATE:

Called today, it is finally "Approved" with a SL of 10K. A good restrain and strategy paid off! Off the Chase BL as well.

Congrats and suprised they approved you to be honest burning them only 7-8 years ago as they certainly know of the loss in their internal records despite it not being on your reports anymore.  Count yourself lucky.

Thanks much. TBH I was not expecting an approval. I wanted to just test the waters. Even after the app menu returned "we need more time," I thought they will match and mail a denial.
