I know that when I ask this question to myself the answer is probably not, but I'll ask the group for their opinion. My strategy has always been pure cashback because I don't travel much, but I know I'll be making at least three flights (domestic and international) in the next 18 months. I've done the math and Chase makes the most sense (AmEx trifecta is awesome, but I will never use most of the perks).
The Dilemma:
I want the CSR, but I don't know if I should bother applying for it. I will probably qualify for the CSP, but the CSR only amplifies the value I'll derive. Should I take the HP risk and apply for the CSR or get the CSP which I am pretty sure I'd get? I have no pre-qual offers in the Chase app, but the Chase pre-qual site does recommend the CSP. There is only one Chase branch in my state which is not convenient to check in-branch offers; I also have a 90 day-old Chase checking account I opened for the free $300, and to expand my Chase product utilization.
The realities:
2014-2015 was a bad time. Wife and I got laid off, got divorced, house foreclosed, all loans went delinquent. I have 37 derogatory marks on my file from 2014-2015 against two mortgages and three student loans. I have been on good terms with all lenders since 1/16 and never late on a CC. All cards PIF every month,.
Current cards:
CapOne Quicksilver (11/16) $4.2k
DiscoverIT (3/17) $8.2k
Chase Amazon Prime (5/19) $7.5k
Apple Card (8/19) $8.0k
Other loans:
Auto Loan (7/19) ~$20k, ~$19; remaining
FICO 8 Score: 702 / 704 / 709
FICO 2 Bancard 725 (EX)
FICO 9 Score: 729 (EX)
Oldest account age: e.g. 16 years
Chase 5/24 status: 2/24 (technically 1/24 as Apple does not report yet)
Income: $80,000 (single income)
I'm not 100% certain, but I think I've read on here that Chase doesn't like to be the one to give you the highest CL out of all your cards. If that is the case, you would most likely be denied for the CSR since it needs a $10k CL.
That being said, it depends on how you feel about HPs. I'm one that wouldn't care about the HP if it is a card I am trying to get. But if you are worried about HPs, I'd go for the CSP.
LOL; it's my fear of rejection. It goes all the way back to bad experiences in Jr. High ;-)
I reevaluated my needs and goals and decided to do the CSP because I didn't think I'd get the $10k base limit given that it would be$2k higher than any other card I hold.
Instant approval $15,200! Blew all other cards out of the water by nearly 2x.
Thanks for the push, TSlop.
You shot, you scored! Congrats on the huge credit limit with Chase! You're in!

Congrats! Now that you are in, you can try to PC to the CSR in a year if you think it will be a better card for you.
Congrats on your new CSP card.
