I followed the advice of the forum and applied for a chase card, the sapphire preferred. I have fairly good credit 700, but a 2 1/2 yr Chapt. 7 as well.So I was denied automatically, but called for recon on the advice of you guys (thanks!). The person was very nice and listened to the extenuating circumstances. After around 10 minutes of me holding while she looked at the case/discussed it internally, don't know, she said she was approving the card with a $5K limit.
So far, wonderful...then she put me on hold for a minute, came back and said that the application was not approved yet, that because of my bankruptcy it would need to go to another department for review, and that I would hear back via a letter in 2-3 weeks.
It sounds like she was new. Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation, how it usually plays out?
Thanks
Sounds like they sent it for further review with a recommendation to approve. Any file that has a BK needs to be looked at by a senior UW prior to approval. Stick in there, this is how my Freedom app and Freedom CLI went!

I went through a similar experience, although the rep i spoke with did not tell me about being approved, she told me that my application needed to go for further review and I would hear back in 30 days. A week later I received an email welcoming me to chase. My Chapter 7 is 5 years.
You'll just have to wait a bit and you should hear the outcome soon. Some may advice you call in a second time and talk to another rep. I did that but the second rep told me he saw that I had already spoken to someone and reiterated the fact that my application needed further review and I should hear back in 30 days.
Hopefully you will have a favorable outcome.
Good luck .. I 'll keep my fingers crossed for you ![]()

I truly hope you get approved
I went back to review your thread giving you advice to app....when giving advice we always ask for the entire profile of the applicant to make an informed decision...
Unfortunately you didn't give all the info and no one asked for a complete picture.....
except Finstar and he wasn't answered
Chase is known not to be major baddie friendly I.E. Bk/Chap 7
In the future give all details for better results ...
I'm still hoping it turns out well and I'll be pulling for your approval and post in approvals
Was Chase included in the BK? If so, your odds sit right around nil. If not, the odds improve to slim.

Whether it's true or not I don't know, but I was told by a Chase rep that Chase will never approve an application which has a bankruptcy.

thanks, myjourney, you are right, more info would have helped.
I explained to the recon person that although I filed for BK, I never had any payments late either before, during, or after BK. And I have a history of a lot of credit, including multiple mortages, all paid on time.
I filed because of legal expenses incurred in commercial litigation, not credit related. I had a mortgage and a car loan, both through Chase, that were included in the bankruptcy, one due to the mistake of my attorney, but even though there were in the bankruptcy, I continued timely payments until they were paid off. The irony is, as I told her, the day I applied for BK, I ran my credit report: 805.
Here is something that may interest some. I told her I had a saving account which showed liquidity in case it was needed, and offered her to send her a copy of the bank statement. She said she wrote it in her report, including that I was willing to make it avaiable to them if needed. If you have savings that you feel could be helpful, it may be useful to mention that you can make proof available to the recon person.
I appreciate the input and support of everyone, and will let you know how it turns out.

This is not true at all anymore. Multiple recent Chase approvals for people with BK on file. I was approved for $500 Freedom 2.5 years post BK7 and then approved for a CLI to $5,000 8 months after opening.

Congratulations on getting the Freedom card. It is one of my favorites.
Can you expand on what is in your profile? Besides the BK, do you have any checking or other banking relationship with Chase? Chase was not included in the BK? Where was your app submitted, online? Any recon?
