Chase Slate Denied

I have another data point for the Board.  I had a Chase Visa C/O ($20K) in 2008 and subsequent BK7 in 2011.   The C/O was in my name only.  Both of our scores have bounced back nicely from BK7.  My TU08 is 750, while hers is 740.  We have a checking account there and we cycle about $10k per month through the account.

About 16 months ago, my wife received an "Invitation to Apply" for the Slate.  It has a fixed, defined interest rate and the "opt out" statement.  So I thought she was getting invites due to no C/O and not the BK7.  I decided to app with all 3 CRAs on ice.  I was curious to see what the denial letter would say: 1) Previous C/O or 2) Verification.   I received the letter "denied due to lack of verification".  There was no mention of C/O.

The wife received another invitation to apply last week.  Same offer as before: same defined interest rate and "opt out" statement.  She had no offers on the pre-qual website.

I  was encouraged and unthawed TU-Only for the hit.  I know Chase double pulls frequently and I was not confident I would get approved on the first pass.  I received the 7-10 day message.  Yesterday I received the letter saying the denial was for "BK7 on file".  My logic was if I get denied for "cannot verify EQ"; then I would have unthawed EQ and do a recon.

The denial letter did not mention 1) Previous C/O or 2) Cannot verify EQ.  So now I know not to apply until (at least) the BK7 drops in 2020.

With Chase if you have burned them with a BK or a CO its typically 10 years before you can get back in. You wont be auto approved all your apps will go pending or be outright denied for what ever reason they choose at the time. Some have reported they got back in 7 yrs after the BK but its YMMV. If this actually COed in 08 you might try again after the 10 year period and after the 7 year period has passed on the BK and see what happens.

I am 10 years post CO and 7 years post BK7.  So I thought I would try but I understand if they deny me.  Jamie Diamond is in the business to make money with minimal risk.

Chase systems auto deny any app if there is a BK on the reports. You have to call into the BD# and recon it! Be prepared to answer questions regarding previous CO/BK, and be honest, telling them your situation is different now.

Never just sit on a denial! Recon it like 3 times if you have too! You never know, that 3rd person you spoke with,  just might come back and approve you! Happened to me a year and half ago
