Chase Slate Odds? *Update* Approved - For Citi Simplicity instead

Hey guys, I have an AMEX PRG with a balance of around $7000 as of now.  Some unforseen expenses have come along, and I think I may benefit from the ability to pay these charges over time.  I checked on Chase's Prequal site and had an offer for the Slate, as well as the Freedom and the CSP.

I was thinking of applying for the Slate to take advantage of the 0% APR for 15 months BT offer.  My statement has not yet cut, so I have a little over a month for all of this to happen if I go for it.  During this time, I would cease use of the PRG until the transfered balance has been fully paid off (prior to the end of the 0% promo period), after which, I would either PC the Slate into something else, or just close the card and transfer the limit to my Ritz.

Do you guys think this is a good idea?  Do you think my profile would get me approved for the Slate?

I didn't plan on applying for anything else this year, but this would make life a little easier.

Right now I have 3 experian inquiries, this would probably place me at 4

EQ has 1

TU is frozen and has 4

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

Are you over 5/24? Meaning do you have more then five new cards in the past 2 years? Also slate is not known for huge starting limits if your looking to transfer that entire balance. At least that's what I have seen but I'm sure others will jump in and give more information.

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

Last month I opened up the Chase Ritz, and the NFCU Cash Rewards.  The year before I opened the Amex PRG.  The Discover was opened in 2013, and the Everyday in 2014.

Not sure if installment loans count toward 5/24, but that's it for credit cards.  That would put me at 4/24 (if the PRG doesn't count 3/24).

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

you should be ok if the rest of your profile checks out of course. I'm not sure if installment loans count or not but I believe they don't. I think it's just credit cards only. If you don't get the limit you desire you might be able to move some of your ritz limit over if you have some extra on there. What are your scores?

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

citi also has some good balance transfer cards too I would take a look there as well. Have you checked your discover to see if you have any balance transfer offers on there?

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

Scores are 744 Experian, 741 Transunion, 737 Equifax.  Also, my NFCU account and the Ritz have not yet reported (although I guess they would know about the Ritz).

No pre-quals from Citi, but the Simplicity Card seems to have a good offer 0% APR for 21 months.

Seems they'll pull Equifax based on Credit Pulls Database.

I'd rather stay with Chase so that I can move the limit over to the Ritz when all is said and done, but I'm open to Citi.

Edit:  Just noticed I have the same 0% APR Balance Transfer pre-qual offer for the Freedom as well, you think that would be better for a higher initial limit?

Additionally, does anyone know if I were to transfer some of my limit from my Ritz, such that it resulted in my limit being less than $10,000 on that card, would that jeopradize getting upgraded to the Visa Infinite?

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

Yes the Freedom has a higher chance of a higher limit.

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

Pulled the trigger on the Slate.  The app allowed me to specify an ammount/account for a balance transfer.  I entered my Amex account # and the full balance of the PRG at this time.

App said pending, but automated line says 2 weeks.  Seems like a good sign.  Going to wait this one out.  I'll keep you guys posted.

Too many times this summer have I left the Garden only to re-enter the same day.  Rest assured, this is the last app for a while.  Had temporarily unfrozen both EQ and EXP a week ago.  Once they are re-frozen, that will be that.  The only thing I'll be doing at that point is attempting some SP CLIs.  NFCU might want to HP, but they won't be able to.

Just wondering if you have a offer for the Freedom you would take that?  At least the Freedom gives you rewards the Slate is pretty useless outside of the BT aspect of the card.

Re: Chase Slate Odds?

Didn't have a use for the Freedom.  As soon as the BT is paid off (if I'm approved) I was just going to move the limit over to my Ritz and close the card.
