Chase Slate

I applied for my first credit card today (Chase Slate) after having no previous credit history at all. I have my checking and savings accounts with chase and my banker steered me towards Chase Slate as a good first credit card. I wasn’t instantly approved and he told me that I should expect an answer by mail within 7 days.

Does anyone have any predictions as to whether or not I was approved?

Re: Chase Slate

Your banker must have had a reason for the suggestion, I suppose - but I bet you got denied. Chase doesn't really have a starter credit card. Look into Discover or Capital One. Discover would be the preference, as Capital One is a "triple pull", that is they pull all 3 credit bureaus and each hard pull hurts your score.

Re: Chase Slate

An instant approval would have been nice. But post some data points. Your credit scores and what not. Then everyone can give you some great insight.

He would not have a credit score as this is his first time apping for a card. He has a blank profile.

Re: Chase Slate

Did you asked for a credit or the banker told you that chase is offering you one?

Re: Chase Slate

Yeah.... I see that now. Apparently reading is hard......jumping right into Chase cards without a credit profile is even harder......

Re: Chase Slate

I would say Freedom is the Chase starting card as many get approved with low 600 scores with baddies.

I have seen many. Including myself way back i was approved with a 634 EX with 2 CO's and many medical collections at the time.

I was asking for a credit card and what good first time options they had.

Re: Chase Slate

I’m not sure the Chase Freedom could be considered a good starter card. I was just denied for that card due to no open credit card.

Re: Chase Slate

Getting a Chase card can be done with limited history, and it’s rare when it happens. There’s this guy from the UK who does YouTube videos. He had just moved to the US. He has a checking account with Chase and his income from his regular job and YouTube earnings direct deposited there. He was initially denied for the Chase Freedom but his banker wrote a letter of recommendation to the lending department on his behalf and he was approved for $500 SL. Maybe your banker can do the same for you? Oh and the guy does credit card videos now.
