Just applied for the SouthWest card via Chase and got the: Decision Pending- thanks for applying- we need to review your application a little longer. What are the chances of approval? I was just approved for a Discover IT card this morning with a $1600 limit, so i figured I would try this as well.
When I applied for this card a few months ago I was sent to review and ultimately denied even after recon. The reasons were that I needed at least a year of credit history according to the CSR and that I had no comparable limit (the minimum issued for that card is, apparently, $2,000). That has since changed but my scores were all in the high 600s at the time with no derogatory marks on any of my credit files. Hopefully this gives you some info as to how you might do in the review process. Call the status line - as was stated above, two weeks tends to be good news and 7-10 days is usually bad news. I was recently given the 7-10 for the Freedom Unlimited but reconned it successfully. Don't give up!
You can call the recon line to get immediate decision and keep calling them if the first time had no luck.

How many times can you call to recon? I applied for this card and was denied. I called to recon and they told me they want to see more history with my new Slate account before they will extend any more credit to me. My Slate was approved last month but the CL was only $500.

There's no limit on how many times you can call. However, I would say try for 4-5 times and if it still doesn't work, maybe you need to consider give up this time. It also depends on the reasons why you were denied. The minimum CL they give for Southwest is 2K so make sure you have some card that are around or above this limit.

4-5 times? That's way too many. 2 max. Realistically, if they only approved you for $500 slate and then cited they want to see more experience with it then I would wait a few months. Try once more maybe but don't waste your time trying 5 times. That's bonkers
This was an advice from a friend who worked at a bank's credit department. He has seen people got approved on their 4th tries. As long as you think you have legitimate explainations, I don't see any reasons why you don't give yourself few more chances. It is not just about the person's credit history, but also an art of persuasion.
