Seeing that Chase had opened up a bit considering the increase SUB for CSP and lots of recent increases, I decided it wouldn't be a bad time to apply for the United Explorer card since I take a couple of flights a year with United and the free checked bag would be advantageous.
The original message on application is shown below (I applied through United since my United account showed an elevated 60k offer):
Shortly after, I called RoboLady and heard the 7-10 day message but I got the same thing with my Chase Freedom Flex a while ago but I was eventually approved after I called into recon so that's what I did. On recon, they asked some questions along with the background on the AU cards and I clarified that they were my parents and I personally don't spend on them and neither do I pay them, they also confirmed income and housing information.
A couple of hours later, and after that reconsideration, the status changed to two weeks but they let me know it was going into further review which I've never heard of before. Does anyone know any information on that?
From there, I called on for another reason (errors with 2FA) and they saw a new $5k limit card on my account (they didn't seem to be able to view the name of the card) and mentioned it was under review so that may be a good sign, who knows? I've also never heard about that before.
So I think an interesting set of datapoints, I had 6 INQ on Experian (Only Pull) at the time of application (I have 1 on both EQ and TU... my EX had gotten destroyed), 7% overall Util, AZEO on personal card using my Discover to report, AU cards show more Util.
I will report Updates below as more info comes up, probably in the next couple of days.
2 weeks status correlates with a tentative approval pending a final review to confirm and emperically means a high probability of actual approval. I wouldn't dance a victory dance just yet but it's looking good for you.
So I waited a couple of days to call reconsideration and have been checking the Robolady without any change to status. After I called in and they verified some information, they told me I was denied with a denial reason of "Lack of Comparable Creditline" after I had to confirm that the other accounts on my history are AU cards (not shown in signature) since the United Explorer card has a minimum creditline of $5k.
After that, I decided to go into reconsideration since I have had my Macy's card (which grew very quickly) with a tradeline of $24,000 and my Citi Premier card with $3,900 that I have used up to $3,000 before although currently reporting $0.
Their new denial reason was "Too few accounts opened for a sufficient length of time." which I can't really argue with since my oldest three accounts are all 11 months old and my average age of accounts is 9 months. They told me that I could try again at anytime although they did mention the 5/24 rule and how I did have a lot of accounts open as of now but I explained it's because I'm young and I was recommended to open various accounts with various issuers so I would have a long and thick credit history in the future.
I'm not sure if I should try to recon and explain that I've been very good with my credit use and I have effectively had as much credit history as my age allowed but I'm not sure that that will get me anywhere. I think my plan is to garden a bit longer and try to increase my credit limits on my Discover It card and my Citi Premier card to hopefully get around or over $5,000 in at least one of them. At that point which will be a couple of months from now I think I will try again.
Sorry to hear about the denial. Nice job on the recon though. My guess is Chase wants to see a little longer time of credit history as yours is very new.
On the bright side you are definitely making the right moves to set yourself up for a healthy credit profile
With Chase, it's usually advisable to wait at least one year before going for one of their cards. Especially a premier cars like the UE.
I'm going with the one year also.
How long would you all recommend waiting before reapplying then? I was thinking at least mid-end of June in order to show slightly higher limits all around but I'm not sure if I should be waiting longer still till around August or September since I did now get the Amex card (which shows a much higher limit which is another thing Chase was weary about). My deposits at Chase should also be increasing and staying high over the summer.
My signature is current and the lot of new accounts may harm me especially with a short file but I hope I can get over that by being great in every other category and getting over 5/24 like a lot of other applicants to chase recently.
btw the recon denial reasons have been:
Too few accounts opened for a sufficient length of time.
Lack of Comparable Creditline
I also learning Chase does not consider retail accounts when comparing credit lines so my only high accounts showing would be Chase, Citi until Amex reports with Amex being the only account over $5k they would consider.
