This may not apply to most here, but I had been on a roll so I wasted a couple of hours of my life opening a checking account with Greenstate. I had recently read all the stories here about how they pre-approve you for credit cards with generous credit lines when you open a checking account, based on the SP that they run before opening the account. After I opened the account, I was waiting for the CC offer which never arrived, so I called them this morning. I was told that unfortunately, if you are over 70 or under 20 (I'm the former), there is no automatic pre-approval. They can put in an application but the dreaded HP would be required. So I declined and now I have $505 sitting in the fine state of Iowa (I live in New York) that I don't know what to do with. It seems like too much trouble to close the account after a day. Bummer!

can they do that?
I imagine because it's not the full application, it's okay, but that seems pretty "yikes" to be honest

I thought it was blatant age discrimination. I'm surprised that they would actually say it explicity. But life's too short and I don't have the motivation to pursue it.
Under a certain age I believe they certainly can't solicit or do pre-approvals per gov't law I believe. I would or you would all have to research it on pre-approvals, target solicitation
My Greenstate CU exp./ DPs ~1.5 yrs. ago (1.5 yrs. post bk7, age in the middle of 20-70), I opened an Upgrade Visa/ LOC. The account came w/ a membership to GS CU automatically ($5 sav. dep.). I then applied directly online to GS CU for a platnum Visa. I was asked to input my CL request. I replied $9k, and that is exactly what I recieved, and it is the CL as of today.

HP or SP?
Deffinately a HP, no pre-approval offer. I went to the GS CU site and applied with my membership #.
