I googled a bit about this but didn't find any rhyme or reason for it...
So yesterday I applied a 2nd time for CSR (first time was the day it went officially live), as well as the Ink Cash a couple hours later.
Called the status line maybe 15 mins after CSR app just riding hope that maybe it wouldn't say 7-10, but of course it did. Decided for kicks and giggles to call again tonight and after I put in my SSN, it immediately said "please hold while I transfer your call". I hung up.
Why would the auto status line need to transfer my call for already-5/24'd denials?

Maybe because it wasn't for a 5/24 denial or something tied in with the Ink app? Hard to say, my 5/24 denial app status for the CSR just said 7-10 days as of last week. Out of curiosity why hang up? The computer has already had the thumbs up or down vote, I got denied on Christmas Day haha.
Apparently I was naughty last year.

Yeah I am curious now. I guess the hang-up is instinctual when dealing with Chase. Most people seem to suggest that not talking to a human gives a better chance of approval for some reason.
Merry Christmas denial! My gosh Chase, have a heart haha
Maybe tonight I will allow the transfer to happen...
In case anyone else runs into this:
Just called again and decided to let it transfer me to see what happens - since as far as I would have guessed both my apps would be 5/24 denied anyway so what's the worst that could happen?
As expected, calling the "automated" status line resulted again in an immediate "Please hold while I transfer your call" message after entering my SSN. Very quickly, a polite lady answered with "JP Morgan Executive department, may I have your name please?"
I gave her my name and explained how the auto status line somehow transferred me to her, and I just wanted to check on the status of my recent credit card application. She explained that the transfer was probably due to the UW department being closed now, and offered to check on the status for me.
After verifying my SSN, address, and application date she said that the application (singular, remember I apped for CSR and Ink Cash) was still "in process" which is not a denial, but rather that a final decision has not been made yet. She also said that I should be receiving something in the mail very soon - either the card, or a letter from UW or verifications dept if they need anything else from me, or a letter of explanation if it ends up being denied.
Don't want to get my hopes up, but this does make me think that there is actually a chance I might be approved for at least one of these cards. I'd actually be a little pinched if they both were approved because I am already working on 5k spend for the new Amex SPG Business card...
Sorry to hear of this. Which application status numbers are you calling? I called both of the automated status numbers that I am aware of after apping on January 13 ( was approved) , and neither one transferred me to a live person.
Try calling the other automated status number for Chase that is listed in the backdoor numbers/ helpful threads section here on myfico ( at the top of the credit cards forum)
