I applied for the Chase Freedom card last night and got the dreaded 7-10 day message. I called this morning and spoke to a credit analyst and they said that I have too many new cards, and 2 collections which led to the denial. Should I call and try to recon again? I did not attempt to ask her to kindly reconsider her review or start me out with a low credit limit just to establish my credit with chase. Just for reference, I opened 10 lines of credit this year so far. What should I do?
You should recon exactly 0 more times.
As is plastered all over the forums, Chase has a rule that if you've opened 5 or more new credit accounts in the past TWO years (you're double this in half the time), you're ineligible for the Chase Freedom, Sapphire Preferred, and Slate cards.

I wonder if this "rule" is legit. Where did this information come from? Thanks for your honest opinion. I guess I have to know when to take a loss! This is one of them. Thanks again.
The rule is legitimate, I'm sorry to say. I wish it weren't.
Just Google "Chase 5/24" and there are multiple websites and discussion boards talking about it. It went into effect in the spring/summer of this year.
You're obviously welcome to try again but there is a 99.99% chance it will do you no good.
What everyone else said.
