Chase freedom approval odds

I currently have a BofA cash rewards VS ($7,000) amex BCE ($5,000) discover ($2600) and chase freedom student ($700)

oldest account is 16 months, average age of accounts is 13 months and the freedom student will be 1 year old at the end of this month. My original plan when opening the freedom student was to product change to the freedom when the account is a year old because I was denied for the regular freedom a couple months prior, but I would rather not lose that $20 a year "good standing bonus" and get the $200 sign up bonus on the freedom. I would go into a Chase branch if possible? ..

speak to a personal banker, and see if you are pre-approved for that card. JMHO

What were the reasons for your recent denial?

Re: Chase freedom approval odds

First off, I like your handle. I'm all about the cash back too. Yeah, I say +1 to what @M_Smart007  said. In branch is always your best and most informative bet with Chase. I would for sure either way wait until your freedom student is over a year. I see no reason why not to keep it open and throw a small purchase on it every now and again. Sounds like you get that $20 bonus for another 4 years. Might as well see if you're preapproved for the Freedom, and keep the student open until your $20 anniversary credit runs out in a few more years. Even after you close it, it will remain on your reports for around 10 years typically. Whatever your decide to do, good luck and let us know how it goes. We love data points around here! Welcome to the forums, we are happy you're here!

Re: Chase freedom approval odds

I don't have any green check mark offers in the chase app, I was originally denied for the freedom card when I only had 2 months of history and 2 cards. When I applied for the freedom student I had 5 months of history and still got denied but was approved after 3 recon calls, I have since moved more money into my chase accounts just in case that helps with their decision making. Credit Carma says I have good approval odds for freedom unlimited and sapphire preferred but I've never seen the regular freedom card on CK

Re: Chase freedom approval odds

My opinion is that you would get approved at this time.

You're under 5/24, already Chase customer, you've got more than a year of history, and if your utilization is in check, I think you should be just fine with a cold app.

Re: Chase freedom approval odds

@Anonymous I would advise you to ignore card recommendations from Credit Karma; they are paid when someone applies using their affiliate links so they have every incentive to suggest cards you might not otherwise qualify for.

Stick to green or black check preapprovals in your Chase mobile app, Chase Credit Journey, or your online account.  Also, checking for in-branch pre-approvals with a personal banker is highly recommended.  Further, Chase occasionally partners with Cardmatch.com to make targeted offers so you can check that too.  All others you can ignore.

Re: Chase freedom approval odds

I think you are good to go! I got approved for CFU with lower scores and just 1 Discover Card with 2000 limit and 8 months history.

Moved to the US in August 2018.
Applied for Citi Costco in November 2018 - Denied due to lack of history (no history).
Started building credit in January 2019. Please hover over each card:

Also have Chase Marriott Bonvoy Bold (6 months old, $11k limit)
Bilt Credit Card (6 months old, $2k limit)
Amex Hilton Honors Surpass (1 month old, $16k limit)
Two paid off auto loans ($20.5K and $15.7K)
