So my husband now has two decent Fico Scores after the seven year mark just past for one derogoratory to drop off his report. Scores are now 704 (EX), 685 or 665 (TR) and 699. His derog has not dropped off Transunion but the lates associated with the derogatory have, still shows account closed by B of A for derogatory reason. It will fully drop off in a few months and his report will be squeeky clean. I forgot to check if they pulled from Transunion (I think they do), if I had I would have advised him to wait until it was clean and his score jumped up. He is an authorized user on my Discover card.
So he was pre-approved for the cash back or the Chrome card, he applied online for the Cashback card and got a message to call to continue filling out his application. I've never seen that before. Anyone know why or what they want to speak to him about?

Probably verification or the dreaded 4506 T form.
Hopefully just verification.
That happened to me when I first got my discover. I called and she told me I was approved and told me my starting limit was 12K. At the time I did not have as good of scores as stated in this thread.
Why ask us? Don't have him be shy have him just call and see what they want. Guessing verification.
I always got that on my three approvals from Discover, usually just verification.
Thanks everyone for the feedback!
Hubby hates making these kinds of calls, but did agree to finally call Friday afterwork. I'll post an update about what they wanted to speak to him about. I hope it's not the dreaded IRS proof of income, because although I did put accurate info. he (and I) don't like sending that kind of data to companies for merely a credit card. So we shall see.
He also accidently applied for a regular credit card (I think) so we will ask and if he did ask if we can get a business card instead. Anyway, I'll do an update post after we find out.
Finally called, all they wanted to know was his date of birth, then they hung up and called him back on his cell phone and after verifying that it was him, they told him he was approved for 5K.
Not a big amount, but it's decent to start considering we did a compromise payment about 5 years ago to pay off what we owed after being unable to pay, so looks like he's partially forgiven and they are giving him a chance. They told us he can't apply for a second card (we asked about a business card) until one year has passed.
He also just got approved for Cifibank for 6K. So he now has four decent cards (AMEX, AMEX Business, Citibank and Discover) along with his original cards from Capital One QS and Capital One Platinum. Feels like he (we) are finally back on the road after hitting rock bottom and finding myfico and rebuilding. I have Discover (18.2K), AMEX, PenFed and Pen Fed (he is the authorized user on all), along with AMEX Macys and a few retail cards which he is not on. So I think he is set for the next few years to continue to just get his scores up higher until we can afford to buy a house....somewhere down the road.
Thanks for your help!
