Chase in Branch Application Fiasco. UPDATED

So being at 5/24, and wanting the Chase Sapphire Reserve, i knew my only chance was to take the two hour trip to my closest Chase Branch in the next state over to check pre approvals.

 

- I let the banker explain all four cards I was being offered, and pretened to be extra intrerested in them all.

- I then clearly indicated the CSR as the best fit, stating how I like th travel credit that almost cancels out the anual fee, as well as the higher points redemption which I can use in addition to my Freedom points I have.

- The banker restated how the CSR is a great card and I would love it.

- She said it went to a 7-10 days message, but she would call on my behalf, since I told her I did need to verify when I got my Freedom.

- She gets on the phone and reaches to get the printed paperwork.

- As she sets its on the table, I notice it says CS Perferred and not CS Reserve. 

- I pointed it out and she was clearly surprised.

- She quickly went to her Branch Manager and came back and told me it would be all set, that after the CSP is approved, they will convert it to the CSR and I can still get the 100,000 points bonus.

- I've read that product changes dont qualify for the sign up bonus, but she assured me I would get it.

 

- Just called the automated status line and it states 2 weeks, which from I read is a good sign. I anticipated being approved, the only negative is being over 5/24

 

 

 

 

 

TL;DR

Banker selected the wrong card for me when applying, says once its opened, they will convert it and I will still get bonus.

UPDATE:

 

- So i was approved after a few days for the wrong card as expected the CSP.

- Bad news was my banker called me there was nothing she could do to product change the card after all.

- She confirmed with another rep on the phone who stated we could of changed the applcication at the time it was submitted, contrary to what the rep said when the banker and I called in originally when the problem was noticed.

- She did say I could close the account, and that Chase would scrub the account and the inquiries off my report so i could apply again, however since I am at 5/24 already, and she stated the system didnt show any pre approvals, I doubt that I would be approved for anything at this point.

 

My last hope is a case opened with the EO. They havent been helpful in the past, so i hope the pull through this time.

The CSP has no place in my wallet based on the other cards I carry, which is why I so desperatly wanted the CSR.

Wow! That would not sit well with me in the least bit!!! i hope you get something figured out..

Definately get in touch with someone higher as this isn't your fault and their error.  Let us know how it goes.

This sucks! I would still get the bonus points from the CSP now that your already have it, and in the meantime try and contact someone higher up.

The Exexcutive office completed their investigation, and basically said I'm out of luck. She advised I could apply again, but we both agreed that that 5/24 I was out of luck.


My next option is the CFPB complaint route, but I think that just goes to the executive office team eventually anyways.


Any other suggestions?

I would still file the complaint. It does not make sense that the EO completed the investigation not in your favor. Unless the branch staff are now claiming that you did not ask for the CSP.

I promptly called the manager who said he is going to try to make a call but I do plan on proceeding with the CFPB.
The EO did make it sound like the branch was trying to change the story, but we will see what happens.
