Chase no CLI approval over 5/24

So I learned from Chase today that they are not able to approve a CLI on my CFU due to too my having 7 new CC accounts with the last 2yrs.

I had not heard of this before.

Obviously if I were applying for a new card I could understand because that's the rule, but previously the school of thought that I was privy to was that Chase would potentially allow a CLI after 6mo. w/ a new card and so thats all I was trying to accomplish.

Needless to say I knew my other inquiries/new accounts would probably play a factor, which they did, of course, but I thought that if I called reconsideration that I'd at least get an opportunity to explain my reasons for wanting the CLI and why I'm doing what I'm doing elsewhere with regards to my credit usage, how my history with Chase has been PIF every month, how I value my relationship w/ Chase, how clearly I utilize my credit in a responsible fashion and she wasn't real interested in talking about all that, just that I had 7 new cards in the last 2yrs and that they couldn't approve an increase due to that reason alone.  She did mention moving some credit from my CSP to the CFU if I wanted, however, which I didn't do.

Is this something I should have known about already?

I equate Chase to that nose in the air girl or boy at school, that thinks everyone wants them. 😆

Sorry about your denial.

Chase only wants a monogamous relationship it seems.

This is something new to me.

Though, they've always been CLI shy.

If you make them your one and only.

You may get a CLI in a few years.

Kidding of course...well not really.

I'd find another main squeeze and give them that business. But that's just me.

Re: Chase no CLI approval over 5/24

That's just the thing...I've been putting pretty much my whole life on my CSP. I got the CFU to supplement and grow my points faster. They get literally all my day to day expenditures and recurring monthly bills.

The rest are just 0% BT cards w/ Citi, 24mo 0% from Samsung Finance, 7yrs 0% @ Furniture Row, and Best Buy for 24mo 0% on a TV.

Chase gets 4-6k/mo average spend on just my two cards, that doesn't include my wife's 3 cards.

Still, I am confused about what cards she was referring to because she said it didn't include store cards or anything else.  Now I need to comb through my accounts because I don't think there are that many Visa or M/C in my name.

Wow!!

I can think of several other FIs that would give you keys to the vault with such a dedicated spend.

Never put all your eggs in one FIs basket. Especially large banks like Chase.

Citi has been treating me pretty well and honestly I really would like to get a Prestige card with them as the perks would line up with my usage.

Perhaps I need to give them another look.

Re: Chase no CLI approval over 5/24

Citi is one of those that looks the other way, if you treat them right.

They don't seem too concerned about CC's from other banks.

As long as you use them and pay the bill.

You'll have a much easier time IMHO and experience getting CLIs and other CCs from Citi.

Re: Chase no CLI approval over 5/24

The only way I know to treat them right is to spend a lot and PIF. I won't carry a balance if there is interest involved. I guess that's why Capitol One won't give me a card, or so Ive heard.

Re: Chase no CLI approval over 5/24

Interesting. I was a little intrigued this year that I didn't see any movement aroudn the time Chase does a review of my accounts (seems like March-May). I figured it might have to do with Covid (and probably does).

That said, it seems like they have been counting new Chase business cards as part of 5/24 from some accounts, and now this. My "spree" after hitting 750 and adding the DC and AR put me at 5/24 at that point. Might be something there too given I haven't seen a card offer in the portal in a little while either. I'll let you know if that changes come July/August when my Amazon Visa turns 2 and puts me at 4/24.

Re: Chase no CLI approval over 5/24

It sounds like the primary reason for the denial was having too many new accounts, not due to a 5/24 policy.  Chase really scrutinizes credit reports for CLI requests, and since they're looking at your credit report it's easy for them to specifically tell you that the reason you are being denied is for having 7 new accounts in 24 months rather than a more generic "too many new accounts."

Depending on your profile, a lot of new accounts can be overcome.  I got a CLI on my CSR last year while I was LOL/24, and haven't heard of any new extensions on the 5/24 policy other than for new applications (and even then, green checkmark, black star, and in-branch preapprovals can overcome that).  What are your current scores and how does your utilization look?
