Chase ran unauthorized credit check during reconsideration call

I called Chase's reconsideration line to have one of their analysts reconsider a denied CSR application that was placed on Nov 13. The call took place Dec 8.

I gave the woman who took the call the reference number cited on the rejection letter I got in the mail. She proceeded to verify my identity by sending me a one-time-passcode via text. She later proceeded to asking me a bunch of questions regarding income and employement (at this point I thought she was still verifying my identity)

She put me on hold for a few minutes and then I get a new hard pull notification. I asked if she ran my credit again and she said yes because its been more than 30 days since your application and I have an outdated report!

Needless to say I was rejected again on low AAoA basis according to her.

Can they even do that without consent or authorization? I mean this was a reconsideration call, not a new application submission call.

Can I dispute this?

Re: Chase ran unauthorized credit check during reconsideration call

They 100% can do this. You’re asking them to reconsider you for a loan, they have the right to have the most up to date information to make that decision.

They can even technically pull multiple bureaus if they choose.

When you apply for credit, any HPs related to that request, including reconsideration, cannot be disputed.

yes they can do that if the App is more than 30 days old.

Re: Chase ran unauthorized credit check during reconsideration call

You are asking for credit (or reconsideration of an application) so it is a valid pull. They have the right to re-pull for reconsideration. Typically most banks will use the same pull but there's certainly no requirement that they do so.

Sorry but you can't really dispute it.

Unfortuantely Op, I have to agree with what KDM is saying.  Yes, they could use the same pull, but they can get a new one if desired.  From a consumer standpoint it is not preferable of course, but it is the risk that comes with it.  I know it will not make you any happier, but just be glad they aren't like Cap1 for instance, where they triple pull all 3 bureaus.  You could've possibly taken 6 HP's in this example, in theory.
