Chase recon?

Chase recon?

Last Sunday I applied for the Chase Freedom and CSP back to back. Freedom was from a mailer (because the site pre-qual was a higher apr), CSP was cold apped. I then apped for AmEX and was approved, also from a mailer as the site wasn't showing any pre-quals. I got approved immediately for the Freedom for $3000.00, and the AmEx ED for $5000.00. Very happy indeed, but I figured the CSP would give me some sort of message.

I got a 30 days message via the website after applying for the CSP, then a 30 day through e-mail after.. the automated line stated 7-10 days for a decision in writing and has been the same every day since. Today I finally got my mail from Chase (and my Freedom card!) and got the message below:

Sadface! I was hoping it was related to verification but apparently not. They only pulled EXP, and it's based off my EXP report. Take note, these cards since my Cap1 in 09/2015 are the first TL's I've applied for since my car loan in 2007. I have a checking/savings account with Chase as well, but the Freedom with them is my first card. The letter is dated 02/16/16 which means it was an automatic denial.

Should I attempt a recon at all? Obviously the new accounts have not hit my CR's, the only one showing is my Cap1 and that should hit it's 6th statement next month. They can see the Freedom obviously.... so I'm not sure if this message means because of the Freedom/CSP apps, too many inquiries (though wouldn't it say that if it were?)

If a recon might be a good shot, any suggestions? It would be my first and I can honestly say I'm a little nervous, lol.

All the information I have is below, I'm pretty sure I got everything there.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :-) Thanks everyone!!

Car loan opened 2007; paid off/closed in March 2013; 6-11 30 day lates over the course of the loan. (Currently working with Acura as the info is different across CRA's/lates not matching up/some lates never occured) Last 30 day late noted March 2013. (I was joint with my father as the main)
Credit card opened 2002 $1000.00 CL / paid/closed 2008. Never late. (Only reported to EQ however)
No baddies besides the lates, clean public records.

Re: Chase recon?

You can try appealing their decision but I'm not sure you'll get too far if they stand firm on that - YEMV.  It appears much rarer these days to overturn a decison citing the "too many accounts in X amount of time" theme - except the latitude is more broad given the combined reasons on the letter.  If your profile supports it, go for it.

Re: Chase recon?

Going to be hard to recon with such a thing credit profile IMO, hence the denial.  Sometimes Chase will approve two applications within a 30 day period, but probably with pretty thick profiles.   You you really want the CSP DON'T APPLY for more than the cards you have gotten recently due to the 24x5 rule they have and re-apply in 3-6 months down the line.

Re: Chase recon?

Thank you both of you :-)

I've been reading a ton and have seen posts regarding the same denial letter, with some success of recon on the decision. I wouldn't necessarily call my credit file thick and I can see why my account would cause concern. It was obviously an automatic denial due to number of inquiries as the AmEx isn't on there yet... so I kind of want to recon it but not sure I want to chance another HP at this time. Do they always do HP's on these recons?

The CSP would of been my 4th card, so yes I will more than likely wait as I don't want to hit 5... Depending on if I go through a recon or not, obviously if I do and I happen to get it I will be in the garden for a bit anyway. Smiley Wink I am looking at a mortgage about 2 years down the road, so I want to be better established and get my credit going. I had a lot of problems back in my twenties and made some stupid mistakes, everything is off my CR's now so it's pretty much a rebuilding process.

I usually have good rapport with CSR's, but like I said this would be my first time at a recon. Any suggestions for how to explain opening new accounts other than wanting to establish a good banking relationship?? (I already bank with Chase and have never had any issues, always have found them pleasant to deal with).

Re: Chase recon?

I am in the same situation.  Applied for both but got CSP not the freedom. Let me know how it goes and good luck.

Re: Chase recon?

Best advise it to be prepared to answer their questions as she they will ask you about many things on your credit report.  They will most  likely say we just approved you for the Chase Freedom the other day and want to see how you perform on this card prior to approving you for the CSP, be ready to have an argument/reason why you need/want the CSP now vs. later.  they might mention that you don't have any 5k+ CL's either atm(keep in mind your Amex ED hasn't reported yet, that is your choice whehther you want to bring it up), be ready to counter that and the likes.  Recons with chase have become less fun over the last 6 months to a years and it is like pulling teeth with them to overturn most of their decisions these days

Re: Chase recon?

Recons aren't fun, like CreditCuriousity said, and you have to be prepared to answer questions about your report. That's the nature of a recon. You're essentially asking them to go back over your report with you in hope of an approval. So it's never going to be a fun or stress free process, but it can yield results.

That said, while there's no harm in trying, I wouldn't expect too much at this point.. But you've already taken the pull, so you may as well give it a chance. Good luck.

Re: Chase recon?

Goodluck! I applied for Freedom (instantly approved) and applied for CSP a week later (got the dreaded 30 days message, but ultimately denied). I called recon line and the guy told me to wait for another 30 days to apply for another card as they don't hand out two cards within that period or recon after 30 days. I called again today and was still denied! but hope you have more luck on your side!
