I've had this card a year + a couple of weeks. Scores currently in the 730 range. Yesterday, I requested CLI online and got the "unable to approve" notification, with letter to come via USPS within 7-10 business days. But today the letter was sent to my portal...denial reason is balances too high compared to their available limits. They pulled Equifax, by the way.
My overall utilization is 22%, but I do have a card that is 40%, and that is on a zero-interest promotion for several more months. This request was not urgent by any means, so after I pay off the other card I should be good to go.
Greetings BetterMoves ~ Sorry to hear that your Citi Costco CLI was denied.-but- is it possible to call for a recon? You can then explain the card with the 40% utilization bring a zero-interest promotion. Wishing you success on obtaining an approval via the recon.
Thanks, babygirl1256! I probably could call recon, but it would make just as much sense for me to wait until I pay off the other card. Its not that big of a deal; I was just mostly posting so others would have a general data point (although all accounts are not the same).
Sorry for your denial. That's a good DP to share though. While I'm not entirely sure if Citi will allow you the courtesy of a recon on a denial, when you ask for recon for a higher amount on an approval it results in a HP.
That's true!!!
It seems they pull Experian for new applications and use Equifax for CLI approvals.

They pull any of the three, and often two at once for new apps. While the score displayed on their website is your EQ bankcard enhanced score 8, they actually use a monthly TU AR pull for CLI decisions.
