Citi Costco...pending verification

Hi all! So I applied for the citi Costco card and my app went pending, due to a fraud alert on my credit report. Called today, and the CSR said that I will be getting a letter asking to verify something. She could not give me more info and said to wait for the letter. Anyhow, read on here a mixed results. Some folks called, some waited for the letter. What I wanted to know, what is the correct number to call for the verification? Thanks again!!

Ok, so I called the verification number and the CSR looked into it and said that they had already processed the application, but because of the fraud alert on my credit report, I need to wait for the letter and call the number on the letter to verify the information they will be asking on the letter.  Thoughts on this one?????

Re: Citi Costco...pending verification

I believe they mail the letter to help verify your address is actually yours, so if the letter lands in your hands and you call to verify the info, it's another layer of security check.  I've had this happen to me before and it was explained as a security feature.  especially if you had a freeze on your CR.

This exactly.. Sucks but you just need to wait for the letter. The good thing is that I assume they wouldn't verify your identity to decline the app Smiley Happy

Re: Citi Costco...pending verification

Thanks for the hopeful thoughts!! I do hope it is an approval. I did reconfirm with the CSR that they did indeed process the application but I still need to get the verification letter. Crossing fingers!!

Yeah, i believe with the letter in your hand, you can read off the code or number of the letter to the csr so theyll see you got it and its you. Youll get it then you can buy us some steaks for our garden clubSmiley Happy

Wouldn't the garden club be more interested in stakes? For more productive tomatoes, I mean.

I would say that's a good sign.  Smiley Wink

Also, with an active fraud alert, I would be concerned had Citi not made you wait on the letter (otherwise a fraudster could 'social engineer' their way around it).

I know it's annoying, but the whole point of the fraud alert is to let them know you've had an issue with fraud before, and for them to take extra steps to make sure it's really 'you'.  If you only have to read them a number from the letter that seems fairly painless anyway (at least they aren't asking for copies of ID or utility bills... ugh).

I've got my fingers crossed for you!  Smiley Happy
