So I was approved five months ago for the Citi Custom Cash, $4,000 line (Oh hey I should post that in CC approvals, except it was, like, five months ago) and applied for a CLI (mostly to accommodate a purchase that might take me more than a month to pay off, and using $3,000 of that $4,000 line causes Experian to complain about utilization). Oddly enough (given the subject line), the CLI was declined—what struck me as odd, though, was the reason: "bankruptcy or financial plan on record". They're not exactly wrong (I have a BK7 discharged in 2014), but does Citi normally approve with bk on file but then refuse to give a CLI?
It's quite possible...yes. They could grant an account and decide that your SL is as far as they wanted to go.
Also, you noted "like 5 months ago" and typically, Citi gives a CLI at 6 months with good usage/payments. I am thinking it was a SP so you could always try again after your certain the account is 6 months old.
