I put in an application for Citi Custom Cash card and was denied. The letter only stated it was from my BK back in 2017.
Since I have rebuilt my credit and have PenFed 8 and 10k cards. Amex 10k Card lots of other smaller cards (Target, Amazon, Capital Onex2, Credit One)
I just paid down the 2 PenFed cards which were basically maxed to about 2k balance on each.
The letter they sent said
Thank you for your interest in the Citi Custom CashSM Mastercard® account.
We're unable to approve your application because:
• A credit obligation related to a bankruptcy or financial counseling plan was
recorded on your credit bureau report.
Please note, our decision was based in whole or in part on information in a report from

Experian
Would it be worth it to try to recon or is it a hard no because of BK?
Thanks
From reading this thread earlier this year on a similar subject it seems to be a roll of the dice whether someone gets approved for a Citi card post-BK
One thing I like to note is that the underwriting for the Custom Cash seems to be tougher based on the denials reported when the card first came out. How does the rest of your credit profile look i.e. current EX score, utilization, HPs, age of accounts, etc?
Scores are about 685 across board.
Utilization at around 30%
Average age of accounts is 3.5 years
I even got most bk stuff removed besides actual bk on reports. EQ totally removed my bk so there's nothing on EQ even showing delinquent or bk.
It wouldn't hurt to try to recon the denial since you really don't have anything to lose. My thinking is your scores being held back by the reporting BK and current utilization is what ultimately Citi is going to call back to. Any chances you can quickly bring your total UTL to under 30% if it's not already to see if you can get a score bump?
I did bring them under 30%- waiting for the other card to report it- my only util is 2k on 8k card and 2k on 10k card
all my other cards are 0-20%
You can try the reconsideration approach but it's doubtful they'll overturn it, OP. If you decide to pursue that option, please update your thread so others can learn of the outcome.
I called told them situation and they put me on hold for about 5 mins then came back and still declined. All they would say is look on my experian report and the letter on why I was declined.
Sorry to hear about the outcome. I would wait at least another 12 months (or longer) to try any of their core products again. This will give your BK some aging. Citi Retail, on the other hand, is a little more relaxed on their UW criteria.
If I recall correctly usually Citi will consider you after 5 years post Bk although that certainly doesn't guarantee anything either. 30% utilization is probably a bit high as well considering a baddie on your report which probably didn't help your recon either. Regardless sorry to hear the othercome

I remember when trying for the Citi DC, CiTi was still showing a BK on my report I got denied with the following:
-A credit obligation related to a bankruptcy or financial counseling plan was recorded on your CB report
When I tried to recon, the CSR basically said with a BK showing there was nothing they could do, Auto Denied.
I found that humorous since 4-months earlier Citi approved me for a Citi-Coscto card, so go figure.
