Hi, I requested an increase on my Custom cash mastercard from Citi bank which was open back in may of 22 with a 6K limit, was granted increase back in dec of 22 for 2 K limit which brought the total limit to 8K. Last week put in credit line increase was told by phone that I would get letter in 7 days today got letter in the mail indicating that I have reach max for this account if I wanted to request a limit I need to call Citi bank and let them do a hard pull. Here are are my data points all Fico scores over 800 Owe less then 200 on all accounts total cl is 291K , no inquires in the last 12 months and only 2 inquires in the last couple of years one on Transunion another on experian. I do have another account with Citi which a limit of 23.6K no balance have been runing about 359 per month through account and paying it off. Just not worth hard pull for the increase they could say no any way.
I requested a CLI on my Custom Cash last week and got the same denial reason, and I have been consistently been getting the same denial reason for over a year on that card. I might cave the next time I leave the garden if they still won't grant a SP CLI at that time.
I would not give into Citi bank, you don't know if they could reject you any way, they get almost all the same info with a soft pull, In the next month I will request increase on my Paypal mastercard and ther will be no hard pull.
I was having the same issue with my double cash and premier card. I was denied a CLI on both cards for the same reasons as you. I waited an extra month and then ended up getting a CLI on both cards. Citi has been weird on CLIs recently.

Maybe you are at the max limit they are comfortable with or DTI is too high?

I would not waste a hard pull unless there has been a huge upward swing in your scores lately. If your scores today aren't much different than they were 3 months ago, they'll have the same reaction to your hard pull as they've had to your soft pull.

I agree with you not worth a hard pull for 2K increase and my scores have not change at all, are over 800. Transunion fico 8 is 820 and Fico bankcard 8 is 839 Tramsunion experian is about the same. To the poster who was saying that Citi may not like my DTI, that is not it , my total ebit is less then 500 dollars showing at anuy time and income is 88K. Also I would do hard pull with any bank wher you can not talk to any one and who process is AI driven.

I assume you mean you would not do a hard pull with a bank where you cannot talk to anyone and whose process is AI driven.
And I would say that's a pretty good characterization of Citibank's credit card lending -- it's like dealing with a robot, and the only thing the CSR's can do is tell you what the robot says.

Hi, @firefox100. Perhaps they are indicating you've reached your cumulative limit - since your other card has a nice limit - this would cap you at a little under 32,000 exposure.
Whatever the case, I wouldn't bother with a HP on a possible.
Another poster indicated they received a similar denial and then got the SP increase after waiting another month. You might try doing that.
I wouldnt do a HP for a CLI. My Loews no problem with CLI's. Home Depot (Citi) can stay where its at. There loss on more spend. JMO.
