I was denied for a CLI on my DC, reason stating that my account has not been open long enough to be considered for an increase. My 3rd statement cut a few weeks ago and I waited on my EQ Bankcard FICO 8 to update on Citi's site, as I saw a 67 point increase this month. I've seen folks get CLIs at 91, and sometimes even 61 days after account opening. Just curious if their CLI timeline was a YMMV situation? I have had SP language since the day I opened my account and it still remains. It looks like a "No harm, no foul" type thing where they're just telling me I'm too early I guess? My plan was to keep trying after each new statement cuts until I either see some luv, or a profile related reason for a denial. Just curious if anyone else had a similar experience, and how long it took for Citi to show you some luv?
Card opened 10/16/19, CL $1,000.
EQ bankcard 8 at the time of approval: 664.
Current bankcard 8: 732.
(Scores per Citi's site. I'm also assuming this is the score they're using to gauge my profile.)
6 months/181 days
Mannnnnnnnnn. I hate waiting! 😭 Thanks for the info! Much appreciated!
The initial timeline from account opening is definitely a YEMV thing. Some have been able to obtain a SP CLI before the first 6 months, while others have to wait, which is perfectly ok.
The good thing is that your initial attempt doesn't reset the clock, but I'd wait until your account hits the 6-month mark and try again. If/once approved, then it typically follows a 6-month cadence.
My first CLI (and the only one because new card) happened right after 2nd statement. Card was opened on 11/20 and CLI was last week, so a little bit over 8 weeks.
I am special 👸
Well considering I was somewhat subprime when they approved me I'm sure I fall quite a bit lower on the "specialness" totem, haha. I am just great full that Citi played a part in my rebuild as I feel it's a great card. I'll use it, pay it, and I'm sure in time they'll warm up to me with my increase in scores. Thanks, everyone for your DPs!
My personal experience was 61 days from opening on all 3 of my cards. I was actually approved for 4 total Citi cards 3 core and 1 cobranded within 13 days on January 17-February 1st 2019. Good luck with your journey 👍.
On my new Citi DC card, I made SP requests a week after the third statement and a week
prior to the fifth statement. Both were declined.
The day the fifth statement cycle closed I was given a 40% increase without making another request. Go figure.
I tried another SP request the next day and was denied.
I have not made a single purchase with the card, using it exclusively for no-fee BTs thus far. Max reported utilization was 68%, min reported utilization was 28%, and it was sitting at 38% at the time of the increase.
I signed up and completed a "make 3 automatic payments for a $50 statement credit" promotion while I am slowly/steadily paying down the balance toward zero by month nine.
Sorry to ramble. Hope this info is helpful!
