Re: Citi Double Cash Decline

Although it's annoying to waste HPs, they're very tight with the Double Cash card it seems. Even getting approved you probably would have been looking at a $1k or $2k limit which is IMO useless for a "general spend" card.

Honestly, the more and more stories I see about it, the less I ever would want one. There are only a small handful of people with useable limits on this card. Then there's the whole waiting til statement cut, paying it off, and waiting again to get your full 2%, and having to wait for $25 to redeem...ugh. Citi has a great concept with this card but the execution sucks. I'm sticking with Quicksilver. Far less headaches.

Agreed. I like my QS a lot and it gets a lot of love each month. It also has a $10k limit, which is much more than I would have got with the Citi.

And ok, superficially, the Double Cash is an ugly freaking card IMO. Quicksilver isn't beautiful, but Double Cash...ugh lol

I believe it has more to do with the credit profile income, more than it does Citi just not wanting to give out high limits. The limit on mine was 35100 before I moved 5000 to another card. A lot of people that got approved had luck with asking for an increase and getting 15 or 25, which is somewhat useable for most people. I do like that Capital One and a few others give the rewards right away, but waiting until the next statement is worth the extra .5%to me. When you're talking small spend, it doesn't matter. However, when it gets in the high spending it means more.

Personally, I love the design of the card... haha, and blue and green are my two favorite colors, but to each their own. I also don't find any of the above "issues" as a detriment to the card in my view. I'm perfectly happy with it, I can see how as a sole card it could be annoying to have a low limit, but for a lot of us here I would assume it's for spend that doesn't fall in categories already covered by our other cards.

Re: Citi Double Cash Decline

Right, but theres plenty of spend where 2 percent is the best youll get, depending on your other cards. A 1k limit isnt gonna cut it for most.

Yeah, some have higher limits but they took a 2nd HP to get them. It just seems Citi makes everyone go through a lot of hoops with this card.

Sorry to hear.  It really seems hard to beleive with your scores.  I bought a car last year and moto for hubby,  Makes you wonder what's programmed in the machine along with the CSR's.  I would try again later. Time is the magic word.  You didn't do anything wrong.  I hope to be at your scores in another 6-12 months.

Scores aren't everything when it comes to approvals.

There's a thread here of an 800+ score having to call and recon just to get a starter limit with Barclays Sallie Mae.

I was instantly approved for $6700 with a TU score of 665.

My profile also had no new accounts and INQs in a year.

It's not always just the score.

I'm still shaking my head on this one! Don't think I'll app for Sallie Mae. I really don't want to go thru the same recon mess I just went through tonight again for a while. Thanks for the kiind words. You'll achieve the higher scores in the next year I'm sure. I'm pretty sure my EQ will take a drop for this, however a $4k CLI is going to report in a few days from AMEX BCE. Maybe that will offset it.

Why not?  I was approved with scores MUCH lower than yours.  Smiley Wink

+1 . . . You are absolutely right about that.

Re: Citi Double Cash Decline

If its one thing I have learned about Citi, they dont give high limits with the DC. Better off to get a different card, and PC it.

I feel bad for the OP. What a horrific feeling.

I don't understand why I get mailers for the DC 0%for 12months then 19%, or DP 0 for 18 then 19, or even simplicity 0 for 21 then 12.99.  Yes citi may have more actual approvals after being prequaled, but theres always a chance for denial.

I know for a FACT there is no way in heck, with my scores, that they would give me that low of an APR with simplicity. I just know I'm not good enough yet!

Out of all the Citi cards, what one has the least stringent underwriting? One that isnt a coop card that could be PC to any citi card.

Re: Citi Double Cash Decline

The problem is that to do the PC you need the original card open for a year. So you're waiting at least a year to get the card you actually want. Even several people on here with excellent scores who applied for DC got stupidly low limits and bad APR.

If they want people to use it for general spend they need to give realistic terms so people can use it. Having to get something else, wait a year and PC it to get a decent limit and APR is IMO ridiculous. A workaround shouldnt be required if your profile supports decent terms. Just like with chase and the move limits for CLI workaround. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
