What was the reason? I'm guessing the number of new accounts? Have you considered the Business AA card? They were offering 70,000 miles on the SUB a month or so ago.

Business AA Card...what are the approval odds on those.....

I'd say better than the basic AA card, since it has an AF after the first year. That's the last Citi card I obtained after all those new accounts last year. Just met the spend bonus on it yesterday. Right now AA's giving some heck of discount flights to european countries!

Thank You, I will most likely try for that in 6 months.  I am a AU for my wife Citi Personal Plat and CitiBusiness, and we were able to get 60,000 on the Personal and 70,000 on the Business. She got the cards in November. Then i get this mailer.... But it is advertising, i just find it odd i NEVER had received one before in my life....

I applied for my first personal AA card after receiving those mailers for a couple of months. It wasn't instant, but I did get approved for it.

I had to go through verification and they moved CLs around on that app.

Op, recent for Citi is 6 months. Even if its marketing, its nice to get a mailer, means you are on their radar. As for Gmood1, well, i have an inkling he could walk into a McDonalds and get an instant approval on the Ronald McDonald Big Mac Signature Rewards Visa cardSmiley Happy

Re: Citi Invitation to apply - a pre approval ?

It might not be a preapproval, but it could indicate a greater chance of approval. I got a ton of those for the DC and ended up getting approved even with tons of inquiries. If you want the card, go for it.

Good luck!

I have applied for this exact same card 116 days ago and they did hard pull Equifax and Experian....and they have declined me.

Thoughts ?

Its a crap shoot really. I had 10 new accounts within the 6 months of the last app and approval with Citi. But I already had 1 account with them, with 3 or more years of payment history.

They're pushing the AA cards pretty hard. Not sure of your stats, but from what I've experienced. Obtaining the cobranded cards were pretty easy.

If you don't have any Citi accounts. Expect a EX and EQ pull. Since becoming a current customer. I get either one HP on EQ or one on EX depending on the CC I app for.

@PointsBonus, if your intentions are to apply at some point, and given you took a hit on both EQ and EX a few months ago, be sure your CRs are thawed.  Your other thread about Capital One seemed to allude an attempt with EX locked.   Citi won't play if you lockSmiley Very Happy
