Does anyone have tips with getting Citi cards? I tried to get the Citi Premier last week but was denied even after speaking to EO and getting a second analyst take a look. The reasons were:
too many credit inquiries
too many newly opened credit lines
no installment loan history
Which I kind of get since all of the above statements are true. What's confusing though I have gotten credit cards just fine with Chase, BoA, AMEX, and most recently with US Bank. I plan to get more credit cards for the rewards points, so I don't think those first two statements will ever be false. I have around 2 year AAoA with 7 open accounts, no derogs/negs, 5% utilization, and roughly 30k in credit lines. Does anyone have any comments?
Hi there,
I'm trying to get my significant other to get the Citi AA personal or Premier Card because of the rewards and we are going on a trip soon. However, I got denied so I wanted to ask what people think before applying for her and getting a hard pull. Right now her reports:
EX FICO 739, 10 inquiries (Last 6M: 4/Last 12M: 7)
TU FAKO 749, 2 inquiries
EQ FAKO 745, 4 inquiries
6 Open Accounts, Total CL 33,000, Utilization ~2%
AAoA 1y 0m, oldest account 1y 11m
No negs, no derogs, no liens, etc.
Is it worth a shot? I live in NY so I think Citi pulls EX.
They pulled my experian when I applied for them; The amount of inqs and AAOA makes me think it would be more likely a denial imo. Maybe you could get around it with recon and an explanation of the inqs but I'd let your accounts age to surely get them. 1year is not that long.
Citi's pre-qual site is as close to solid pre-approval as I've experienced. Go there first and if you get a single APR and not a range, I'd say you're good.
Good luck!
OP I merged your two threads as they were basically one in the same and confusing. Please try to refrain from double posting again basically the same content asked in a different way to get the answer. People will get to it when they have a moment. Thanks you.

OP, if the EO route did not yield successful results, then it's time to reconsider your strategy and wait until things age. Keep in mind that just because Chase, BoA and AmEx may have approved you doesn't translate into Citi doing the same - very different UW standards.
There are a variety of online sources (Reddit, FT, Doctor of Credit) that provide some anecdotal information on Citi cards, but at the end of the day, it's all based on an individual's profile and a variety of other factors. Let your new accounts age and refrain from any HPs for a while would be my suggestion.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it unless your SO feels fairly confident that an approval is possible.
