Recently applied for a Citicard but it was denied due to a freeze on EQ. Couple days later I get an alert saying the citi did a HP on my EX report. So, I called in to ask if that application was being re-processed. They stated no and that they were not able to process due to the freeze on EQ> OK. fine. SO i proceeded to make a reqeust that they remove the EX pull. They said they could not remove it.
OK.
Contacted the EO and they said the same thing..but with more BS details.
They claim that the backend system did a HP on EX but the data pulled could not be used to process the application because the pull on EQ failed due to the freeze so again, they stressed that is why they will not remove the EX pull.
How do I get this inquiry removed?!?!?!

Citi can double pull in a variety of cases. If you froze EQ for whatever reason, the secondary CR is sometimes used. However, if the application could not produce a decision given an inaccessible CR, the app is simply incomplete, regardless if EX was accessed. Chase has been known to double pull as well. Tehre's also been reported instances with Capital One with EQ (or other CRs) being frozen and still being declined since the processing was incomplete.
If you've already engaged the EO and their decision was final, then not much that can be done. I mean, let's face it, you had a frozen CR (Citi typicall is known to pull EQ and/or EX) so what was the expectation or outcome you were hoping for if it was frozen?
It's not uncommon for Citi to double pull when a CR is frozen there is no inquiry placed on the report in your case you should remove the freeze since Citi attempted to pull but was unable to do so and simply state that you submitted an application which was denied due to Equifax being frozen and see if they can pull it again possibly getting an approval your scores aren't bad at all are they FAKO or FICOS
Purpose was hoping they would pull EX only but apparently they can double pull. Scores in my sig are FICOs. Would be crazy if I unfreeze EQ, take the INQ only for a denial ![]()

Lets be careful here, talk of freezing one report in an attempt to get a creditor to pull another bureau is taboo on myFico. Thanks for your understanding.
I know I'm late to this thread, but just as an FYI to others. Citi has double pulled EX and EQ for me on all three of my cards with them. And that's with 730-760 scores at time of app.
I'm in NorCal.

It appears the intended (or expected) result failed so the EX inquiry will likey remain, not much you can do to contest it. I believe gdale explained it above.
