Citibank CLI experience

I just reached the six month mark with my Citi simlicity card. I had tried in the past for a CLI and denied for account not being opened 6 months.

Now the account has been opened for 6 months, however my 6th statement has not cut. Should I wait for that? I don't have any experience with Citi and their CLI policy.

Thanks

Re: Citibank CLI experience

While some SP CLI eligibility can occur before the 6 month timeframe, I would typically wait after 6 months or after the 6th statement has generated, but that's just me.

If the SP language displays, then the account is eligible to be reviewed. An item to keep in mind, though, while a CLI is not guaranteed, at least it's processed via SP.

Re: Citibank CLI experience

What kind of usage did you put on the card? For a Sp, Citi uses internal scoring based on your usage.

Re: Citibank CLI experience

I had intially used the card for BTs, paid it off a few months back and have not used it.

It's only 2800K and this is one of the cards that I have been thinking about closing, trying to trim the herd some. So this is leaning me towards the chopping block LOL

Re: Citibank CLI experience

You could try putting some spend through it for a few months and then reapply for a CLI. Wouldn’t surprise me if they denied it because you aren’t using what you have.

Re: Citibank CLI experience

Just spoke with CSR stated "too many recent open accounts" kinda trueSmiley Embarassed but doesn't seem to bother other lenders.

It's okay though , I was never a big fan of this card, just was happy to get back in with Citi ( burned in BK), but still debating on cutting this one loose.

That's not surprising... I was once turned down for a CLI on my (then) Diamond Preferred due to too many inquiries, which is a reason not often seen for CLI denials.

In my own experience Citi hasn't been too concerned with usage... I've not used my Citi card for more than $10 ever - I got it for the promo BT rate, yet I've consistently received CLIs every six months with the exception of the one time they denied me for too many HPs.  YMMV, of course.

Thanks good to know. This card will be in SD and if I get nothing at year mark then I will close it.

Re: Citibank CLI experience

Ive had this language forever now and am constantly rejected. I think ,in my case ,it has more to do with exposure and income, not usage. A bone would be nice every once in awhile lol. Sp definitely doesnt mean you'll get the increase. Ymmv always.
