Citibank and the dreaded 4506-T form.

Hello, I'm new to these forums and want to know if someone can answer a question for me.

Long story short, I am working on rebuilding my credit. Back in January I started receiving the Citbank AAdvantage pre-qualified offers in the mail. I kept throwing them in the trash as I didn't think I would get approved, those stopped coming in and I started getting the Double Cash pre-qualified offers about twice a week. I finally applied and was instantly approved for $1200 CL.

Last week I applied for the Advantage card and I got the wait 7-10 day message. On Monday I got a letter from them saying they needed me to fill out a 4506-T form to verify my income. I have no problem sending that form to them because what I put down on the app is actually less than what I made last year because I have a part time job and I don't include it when applying for credit. Today, I'm going to the PO to mail it and I stop at the mail box and I get another letter from them telling me my app has been declined for "insufficient credit experience".  So, I call to ask them am I wasting my time sending the form in to them since that letter I received says I've been declined and the CSR tells me that my app is still pending and didn't know why I received that letter.

My question is did the CSR not tell me the truth and the app has really been declined or should I go ahead and mail the form to them. Thanks in advance!!

If you are OK with giving them your tax information, I say go ahead and send it.  It will help you get CLIs in the future.  Who knows if the CSR is lying to you but you can still help yourself with the card you already have.

I agree. I say send it if you are okay giving them that info. This way, in the event that it really hasn't been declined yet, the process will move forward.

Re: Citibank and the dreaded 4506-T form.

Is the DC your first Citi card? So they want your tax return because you apped for a 2nd card after getting the DC for $1,200 CL?

Am I missing something here?

I respect everyone's opinion here, but I would not send it. If they only want this for further CLI's, then citibank is lazy.

Re: Citibank and the dreaded 4506-T form.

Oh citi.... In 2012 I was instantly approved for their Dividend card online. Week later got the card in the mail. Called to activate and was suspended. I couldn't believe it. Guess what they wanted? The 4506-T. Personally I had no problem sending that info. I faxed it and two days later card was reinstated with same intial limit. Never had a problem with citi after that. They've become more and more generous to me over the years.

They most likely want the form to offset the denial. Giving you an opportunity. Just my Thoughts.
