I closed my two AU authorized IHG Premier and Marriott Bold, keeping Freedom Flex since I will be applying for my first Chase card which happens to be IHG Premier next month once the two accounts are shown on my credit card report. Do you think it was a good strategy for a better approval besides other factors which are all positive and excellent. I have a direct deposit to my Chase checking account.
The problem with Authorized User accounts is authorized user is not financially responsible for the payment history. The underwriting process is more interested in what the applicant is responsible for. The checking account is only useful if the account is actively being used deposits coming in and bills being paid etc. The purpose of a bank looking at the checking account is to see how well you manage your money.
When it comes to new applications Chase will have the computer include the AU accounts as part of your history but the backup manual review will exclude the AU accounts. Chase does not check the checking account as part of the normal issuing process. They only use the checking account as part of the Freedom Rise application or if your a major customer(Private Client). Weather you will get your new IHG card will depend on what is on your report right now. If your report is rather empty or loaded with only AU accounts then you most likely will get denied. You need to show that you can handle financial responsibility and that is only possible by showing your reports.
