Closing NASA membership

Last September ( I think)...I was instantly approved for membership, and applied for the CC, and of course denied for BK. Then I sent a secure message asking them about their requirements for their CC with someone like myself who has a BK, and they told me 2 yrs post discharge minimum.

Well, after doing some more research on here, its becoming more clear that they dont like baddies even though they say they are ok with it, and they dont like thick files for some reason.

I only got membership with them in hopes of of getting a CC 2 yrs post my BK dc., I know that it wasnt a given that I would, but it seems to me that they arent handing the cards out anymore so freely like were over a year ago.  I think my chances of getting a CC with them arent good now because of the BK, and accounts showing IIB till 2019, and my file is thick.

Just thinking to close it......thoughts??

Re: Closing NASA membership

I would close it. I apped and took hard pulls at CU's only to get automotive pre-approvals.  I want to consolidate 7 bank accounts down to 2 soon.  NFCU and my local checking account.  Found myself going to the convenience store to buy a soda and chips just to put a charge on one of my 12 credit cards.  Gonna cut those down after another year also.

Re: Closing NASA membership

Close it if you no longer find it strategic for your portfolio.  Honestly, your recent flurry of new accounts isn't going to help, but you know this already.  The BK is not really a hinderance per se since some individuals can get approved with it.  It just depends on their review at the time of your aplication if you chose to apply.  As far as a thick file, it hasn't stopped approvals for many folks - myself included.  And, you already have NFCU (and a plethora of other CCs).  So, the question begs and given your portfolio, what would NASA FCU do for you at this point?

Re: Closing NASA membership

I closed my account after getting denied their CC.

They have sent me several letters "begging" me to come back.

Pizza it does seem a while until 2019 but you did take a HP for NASA right? Maybe just sit on the account and keep it on the backburner for now.

Re: Closing NASA membership

I'm in the same boat Pizza!!!    I submitted a recon last week and when I called yesterday she said they just recieved it today and they are going to see what they can do.. I doubt I will get to start out with a 500.00 card like NFCU but if not I will leave my cash in the savings acct for a while and see what happens..  I told the lady if I get denied I will very likely close my membership and she said she noted that.  Not sure if it will help or not but it's the truth..

^This

When I opened my SDFCU it was with the intention of having it for a full year before I even app'ed for credit products. One year later they gave me a 15K CC without battting an eye. Some strategies are long term. NASA could be one of those.

FWIW I had high available CLs when NASA approved me in September.

Re: Closing NASA membership

Close it.  I may keep mine open for the helluvait, but I don't see ever getting approved since my recent denial and subsequent recon denial stated "TOO MANY OPEN/REVOLVING ACCOUNTS AND/OR BORROWING CAPACITY."

I'm pushing $180K with 20 accts....income $100k.  I know I'm pretty much tapped out.

And they used my lowly mortgage score of 686 whereas 08 is 717, and bankcard 08 is 729.  Although they didn't cite the score as a reason for denial.

Re: Closing NASA membership

They've ignored my request to recon twice through their online mail service, closing my account asap.
