I've been reading up on some of the posts here on the forum regarding combining Cap1 products. I currently have 2 Cap1 Platinums. One has a CL of $1500, and the other $2500. Does anyone think it would be worth it to combine the two for a better product. Not sure what I would even qualify for. The pre-qual page says nothing at this time. I might still be opted out, though. I opted back in late last week. My question is, would it be worth a shot to call them to ask if I don't currently pre-qualify for other products?
Also, does it hurt your score to go from 2 credit lines to a condensed 1 credit line with a larger limit?
Admittedly, I went on a bit of an app spree after closing on my condo last week. It's just been years, and years since I last applied for a credit card. I'm not sure how many inquiries I have, but I know it's a fairly decent amount. My guess is just under 10. I'm guessing I should probably just wait, but I figured what could the harm be in trying for a better card with a better limit? Especially, given that I have been Cap1 since I 2004.
Any advice is greatly appreciated~!!
Ok, if 1 of your Cap1 Platinums is at least 6 months old you can PC to another product. (I suggest the QuickSilver for the 1.5% cashback on everything).
In order to combine CL's, the one that you want to close/move must have a $0 balance AND be at least 6 months old.
Just to add Opt in/out takes about a week or so that might be the reason you see nothing or if any of your CB are froozen that is another reason or you just aren't prequalified.

I've had both Cap1 Platinums since 2005 so I'm good there. Called in yesterday, and they were happy to upgrade both of my cards to the Quicksilver One!! No CLI right now. I didn't even ask. I have so many inquiries on my reports right now, I need to let some stuff age before I try for anything. How long should I wait to CLI with Cap1...is there a certain amount of months as a rule of thumb?
Thank you for the confidence to go ahead and ask!!
I currently only have a secured card with them and I don't really have interest in Cap1 but if I were to apply for a card (QS most-likely) would they be able to take the balance of my secured card and add it to the QS?
I would like to effectively get approved for X amount and then call and transfer the secured card's balance onto it. It's not much but it doesn't hurt, right?

not possible.. Cap1 really gets you with their secured cards, especially if it is your oldest account as they never graduate

I wouldn't be wanting to graduate but simply cancel the card and have the balance added to whichever card I get approved for. You're saying they might still consider it graduating and thus won't grant the request? I've seen people do something like this with Barclaycard.
P.S. Thanks
Cap1 will always remain secured being secured card if you have one.. They don't unsecure.. Ocassionally they will do a CLI to a secured card, but that is about it.. You just gotta cut ties with the secured card when the time is right for you.
