I'm sorry if someone has recently addressed this and I missed it while searching.
I have a 2500$ graduated Secured Discover that is about 1.5 years old and a 2nd Discover that is coming up on 6 months. It is my understanding that if I can get a CLI on either card I can merge them into a single account.
1) Will I be able to finish out the Cash Back Match on the newer card if I do this?
2) Will the age of the account be the newest account regardless of which gets the CLI, or is it handled differently?
Looking for DPs and of course the more recent the better.
Thanks!
I recently did this (a couple months ago). My secured card graduated and I had another discover card (it was past the cashback match period though) I wanted to combine. I was told the donor card, the one you are going to fold the other card into and keep, was the one that needed a CLI available. In my case, I kept the previously secured card and folded the newer card into it to get my current limit. They do allow you to choose which card you want be the main one left, so I wouldn't see why you wouldn't be able to keep the newer card and the cashback match. It took me awhile to get it done because NO SOUP FOR YOU!! from discover for a bit on a CLI. I'd ask them to be sure about the match though. Oh yeah, the first CSR I talked to told me it couldn't be done. I had to tell her a friend of mine did it, and suddenly it was available.
Thanks @Adkins this is super helpful. I actually may just wait until CBM is over just to be safe. Plus, I'd rather roll into the older card if possible. Really appreciate your input!

"Smart" to keep the older account
