Comenity CLI HP/SP Data Points

This thread is to try and consolidate information on what appears to be the emerging trend of Comenity Bank to use HPs at times for CLI requests rather than SPs. Recently there have been a number of members suddenly getting HPs when requesting, when in the past it has been a process driven by SPs.

Comenity is far from a tier-one lender and may not “matter” as much as Chase or American Express, but they are widespread in reach and the sheer number of cards they back, not to mention the relative ease of acquiring them, means they are in many wallets on this forum. In that respect, this may be a worthwhile compilation. What I’m wondering is if we can discern a breakpoint somewhere that will help determine when a HP may occur, whether it’s due to passage of time between CLI requests, the amount of the CLI being granted (which we as consumers won’t know until the HP is already used), or possibly due to the credit line already in effect at the time of the CLI request. It may even depend on which card is being increase-requested.

What I would ask of anyone who contributes is to include the following info, or as much of it as you have documented:

Card in question
Open date and whether SP/SCT or HP
Existing CL
Date of CLI
Amount of CLI
For each CLI, whether it was SP or HP

Including this for as many CLIs as you can recall would help broaden the reach of the data and may help shake out any patterns that could be buried in there. Hopefully enough data will surface that we can tabulate it to compare any trends based on any of the data included. Suggestions to improve this are definitely encouraged and welcomed!

Re: Comenity CLI HP/SP Data Points

I’ll start off with mine - it’s pretty easy as I have only had Comenity cards for less than a year and only one has had any CLI activity. (Editing as time passes to include recent increases):

Card - Victoria’s Secret
SL $500 when card was opened on 7/5/2018 - tried via SCT but incurred a HP I believe on Experian
Auto-CLI to $750 on 10/8/2018 - SP
CLI to $1000 on 2/3/2019 - SP
CLI to $1250 on 3/4/2019 - SP
CLI to $1500 on 4/6/2019 - SP
CLI to $1750 on 5/4/2019 - SP
CLI to $2000 on 7/4/2019 - SP
CLI to $2500 on 9/3/2019 - SP
CLI to $2750 on 11/3/2019 - SP
CLI to $3000 on 1/3/2020 - SP

CLI to $3500 on 3/4/2020 - SP

CLI to $4000 on 5/4/2020 - SP

CLI to $4500 on 7/4/2020 - SP

CLI to $5000 on 9/3/2020 - SP

CLI to $5500 on 11/3/2020 - SP

CLI to $6000 on 1/3/2021 - SP (max limit allowed on the card)

Card - Wayfair
SL $500 when opened via HP on 9/22/2018 (EX)
Multiple attempts for CLI declined over several months
CLI of $800 on 3/30/2019, just over 6 months after opening, new CL $1300 - SP
CLI of another $800 on 4/8/2019, 9 days after the previous $800 increase 👍 New CL $2100, also SP
CLI, another $800 today (6/8/2019, exactly two months after my last one), new CL $2900. This was a SP as well
CLI of $800 on 8/8/2019, new limit $3700, also SP
CLI of $1500 on 10/8/2019, new limit $5200, SP again
CLI of $1500 on 12/8/2019, new limit $6700, SP

SP CLI of $1500 on 2/8/2020, new limit $8200

SP CLI of $1500 on 4/9/2020, new limit $9700

SP CLI of $800 on 6/9/2020, new limit $10,500

Card closed 9/11/2020 when Comenity lost the account. I was not converted to a Comenity MasterCard as some were. Tradeline is gone.

Card - Overstock
$750 SL when opened via EX HP on 10/13/2019
$1500 SP CLI via luv button on 10/18, 12 minutes after activating the card, the day it arrived. I set up the online account to be able to pay the bill and took a stab at a CLI - instantly approved. Double-dip was declined but that’s ok. New CL is $2250.
12/18/2019, SP CLI to $3050

2/18/2020, SP CLI to $4550

4/19/2020, SP CLI to $6050

6/19/2020, SP CLI to $7550

8/19/2020, SP CLI to $9550

10/19/2020, SP CLI to $11,550

12/19/2020, SP CLI to $13,550

2/19/2021, SP CLI to $15,050

4/21/2021, SL CLI to $16,550

Re: Comenity CLI HP/SP Data Points

@ImTheDevil

"crickets"Smiley Tongue but that's because I won't be up for my first 6 month review until June '19.  Comenity/HSN csr told me a couple of weeks ago that they are starting to implement certain offers, for me to check my "benefits" tab soon. (I don't remember what all she said ie. coupons, special finance offers, etc.)

I did ask about auto cli's, csr stated that at 6 months my acct. would start being reviewed for such.  Once I jump that hurdle I will gladly add DP's with personal cli requests as well.

Also, did you obtain VS via sct (which I presume is dead)?

Re: Comenity CLI HP/SP Data Points

Laurachrissy, my VS card didn’t work via SCT. I got the pop up at checkout online and accepted it but it was a HP approval. My post up above is amended to reflect this.

Re: Comenity CLI HP/SP Data Points

Laurachrissy, your initial post up above got me thinking. I have Wayfair as well as VS, but it’s a younger card and is about two weeks away from its 6 month anniversary. I wonder if that’s why I can’t get a CLI for the life of me on that card (got denial #8 today), even though my VS started growing before the 6-month mark. I’ll have to request again in maybe 3 weeks if I don’t get an auto-CLI by then. Wondering if it’s also a factor that one of the two cards is d.comenity and the other is c.comenity - two different organizations...

Existing CL: 14.5K & 15K
Date of CLI: 7/14/18 (SP - 3K); 9/20/18 (SP - 3K); 11/28 (SP - 4K); 02/15/2019 (HP - 4K).
SP Amount of CLI: see above

The CLI data is identical for the two cards. One was a HP on the SCT which was used for the other SCT approval a couple of minutes later. Initial SL was OS 500 & WF 1000.
