...And I could use some advice please. I'm approaching my 90 days on both cards.
I've read that around this time that if Discover doesn't automatically give you a CLI, it's good to try at the 90 day mark. Is that literally 90 days from opening date (04/04) or would it be better to wait for the third statement to cut? I'm currently at 152/1500 usage on it and I'm wondering if it's better to pay it off before trying. Would it improve my chances? (May and June statements are 0/PIF)
Now PenFed is a little more interesting: I was initially denied back on 04/04, but through the survey I was approved for 500 (04/06). The rep on the phone said she marked her calendar after 90 days, she would call me so that she could review my account, and maybe give me a CLI if I showed good payment behavior. Currently, I am 80/500. Should I pay it off before getting her call? (April reported 120 balance, May and June statements are 0/PIF; I didn't expect a statement a week after my approval hence the 120 balance) I hear the quarterly AR may be soon as well?
Scores: (FICO 8) 715-730 across the board // (NextGen): 680** (not 100% on this one since PenFed doesn't give me my score yet but when I first applied for Mint, it gave me the same score as PenFed's so it should be in this zone)
Utilization: 3% for May, most likely 1% for June
Baddies: None, I have perfect payment history.
Income: 54000 (part time job, grant, parent income)
Any other helpful information I should know, please chime in! I humbly appreciate all the guidance. Thank you in advanced!
I don't recall the exact CLI timeframe on my Disco IT, but I think it was considerably further out than 3 months. It went from $2k to $3500 automatically at what I think was probably the 6 month mark.
I recently learned here to request a PenFed CLI just before the 90 day mark. I did it about 2 weeks shy and got a $16k increase. What's really interesting is that I just parked a $1500 0% transfer on a $2k limit card and was making $50 payments on it every other week. I had no idea an increase like that was in store for me!
I am hitting 90 days with NFCU next week and they have an AR coming as well. I've paid off my $1k cash rewards card and the $500 on my CLOC will also be paid off before I request it. We'll see what happens

Wow, way to go! Seriously, congratulations on those stellar CLI's! So happy for you!
Hmm, were you hit with another HP? PenFed used to have a 90 day window on one HP, but I've heard that they've been pulling new ones as of late. They really seem to love BT's, but I was worried if I did it on my small limit and being student, it would look bad. Maybe I should try it or if she calls, I'll tell her I'm interested in a BT, which was what I was planning to do anyway. Your story gives me hope, I guess I'll leave it untouched for now unless someone else says something.
Wishing you luck on those NFCU CLI's! Thanks for your input~.
I got the Discover CLI when the third statement came out, which was day 113 for me. They may give you an auto-CLI around day 90, but that has been less frequent as of late. If they do give you the auto-CLI, then hit the LUV button anyway as many people have gotten a second CLI.

Ah, okay, gotcha! I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. If they auto-CLI me at 90 days, I'll double dip, if not, I'll just wait for my statement to cut before manually giving it a go. Thanks for sharing!
I'm going to try and BT my Citi to PenFed. It's not too much, but maybe conducting a BT will put me in for better consideration for a larger CLI.
