Confused as to when I should apply for a card

My score is now a 657 and it has flatlined. I have cleaned up everything I can and Im not sure when and what card I should or even if I should apply for one. I have a secured card that will never get converted. And a capital one that has a $500.00 limit and was denied an increase. Any guidance?

Try the Discover and Amex prequal sites.  I think you might have a shot.  Good luck

Discover is usually a good starting point if your profile is a little bent outta shape or thin. They gave me my first card with no credit score to look at.

If you provide a bit more info some others may be able to make more specific suggestions.

Good luck!

What's the secure card that will never get converted?

Give us some data points so we can see why your score can't rise above 657.

Besides that, Cap 1 and Discover are probably most friendly for thin credit profiles.

Re: Confused as to when I should apply for a card

My DF outright didn't have a FICO score from Experian and has only had one credit thing to date, so her file was pretty thin. She went after Capital One via their pre-qual site and acquired their Savor card with a health $5k limit.

Now she has an Experian FICO score so she gets mailers from Discover and Amex all the time. 😂

I applied for Discover It as soon as I received my SSN in 2016 with no credit history (approved with an SL of $1250). Always paid in full and was offered auto CLI's at regular intervals.
