Considering NFCU CashBack Card

Hey everyone! Ive been toying with the idea of applying for one more card before gardening. Ive been a member of NFCU since march and I have direct deposit for one of my two jobs there. I havent applied for any of their products yet because i wanted to build a relationship first. I wanted to know what your thoughts were on my chances for an NFCU cash rewards card and possible SL. Im interested because ive heard great things about the generosity of NFCUs SLs but I also saw the recent post about them doing account reviews and getting more strict with the amount of credit they give. I only want to open this account if I have a good SL. Also, do yall think i should go for a CLOC? Heres some info about me:

60K income

Fico 08: TU 698 EQ 687 EX 675

AAoA: 3 Yrs

1 paid CO 2 years old

3 inq (2 in past 6 mo)

4 accounts open in last 6 Months  (All were open in January) : Amex charge card AU, Cap one $750 CL, BofA Cash rewards $2300 CL, Overstock store card $2300 CL

Not much debt only 10K in student loans and $600 left in my car loan

5% Utilization

No late payments in past 2 years

Let me know what you guys think!

Re: Considering NFCU CashBack Card

I was a lot lower in scores when I opened mine in March, but had more CO and inquiries than you do.

I was approved for CLOC for 1K and the Cashback Card for 2600.  Just this month my CLOC went up to 15k.  I have already received back over $600 from the card and I went a month without using it much since I was waiting for a house to close and did not want to get caught with a high balance.

I applied for the CC first, then once approved went for the CLOC.  Only had it for 2.5 months and they gave me a CLI, CC I am still waiting- looks to be a 6 month guy not a 91st day account anymore Smiley Sad

Yes, I would go for both. You should be able to get decent SL

Re: Considering NFCU CashBack Card

I didn't get the SL I was hoping for (received $1k) but just had my third statement cut and hit the max button and was increased to $20k.

I'd still go for it if I were you, but don't be bummed if the SL isn't what you had hoped for. It will come quickly enough if you keep handling everything right Smiley Happy

Anyone else have a personal experience with this? I'm hoping to get some more data points before I make my decision. Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: Considering NFCU CashBack Card

Go for it.

My income is slightly less than yours and I have recent lates on my report. No collections, BK or anything like that, just those isolated lates + like 9 inquiries. My SL was 1700 on the card and 7500 on the cloc

Also I applied for the CC the same day I joined and the cloc a month or so later.

Re: Considering NFCU CashBack Card

Do you think that waiting between the cc app and the cloc app helped get you a higher limit on the cloc?

Re: Considering NFCU CashBack Card

Love this card and for anyone considered this card and rebuilding credit I first got a Secured nRewards card with Navy Federal and was actually denied for cashRewards a month ago. My secure nReward card just graduated to unsecured with 1k limit. NFCU was able to change my nRewards card to a Cashrewards card with no pull.

Re: Considering NFCU CashBack Card

Hi few things I would recommend. Do NOT apply for the Cash rewards card. Apply for the GoRewards card, get the new card member bonus and then product change to the Cash Rewards after you have redeemed your free $200. It is very simple to do and you can PC immediately no waiting period by calling in or sending a secure message. You will be fine to apply for both at the same time, UW criteria is different. If you don't get the full $15k then try applying for a $1k starter line as often the manual UW will approve the lower request. It will be a HP each time though good luck!

PS I am a former NFCU employee.
