I read many posts saying that they were approved after the 2-year mark of the BK chapter 7. Some posts also mentioned that they included other Citi cards in their BK. I have a Costco membership and buy groceries 1-2 times a month.
I waited 3 years, and it was denied instantly.
Needless to say, declined due to BK and previous relationship with Citi. I burned the Advantage American Airlines credit card and the Macy's charge.
One thing for sure is that should Citi approve me for another card, the CL will be low, and more likely they will never increase my limit. Also, it will be a hard pull for CL with Citi (if you request it). So, it could be a blessing in disguise.
I'll keep my Costco membership, but I'll never apply for another Citi card ever again.
They pulled from Experian only. I live in PA.
A lot of banks hold a grudge if you burned them in bk. Capone is known to be bk friendly.
The best credit cards for Costco shopping: You can do better than the Costco credit card!
This is a good read for you. You would be suprised at how many credit cards offer better rewards at Costco than the actual Costco credit card. With the BK I personally would stick to looking at credit unions. Shop arround at credit unions with open field of membership or local to you and you should be able to find a card that at least will come fairly close to the Costco card.
My spouse is a longtime Costco employee with their Citi card and an executive membership. About 5 or 6 years ago I kept receiving preapproval mail from Citi so went ahead and applied under our membership ID. Instantly denied AFTER a hard pull. Letter eventually arrived saying declined because of a previous adverse Citi credit card account. It was so long ago that I mentally struggle trying to remember ever even having a Citi card..must've had a card with some late payments over 2 decades ago. I was stuck with a needless hardpull for 2 years. To this day Citi keeps sending me 'preapproved' mailings for various cards but I know are just marketing efforts.
You burned them twice in a BK 3 years ago and you're surprised they won't grant you another account?
Don't feel too bad. I am currently a bit over 4 years from discharge date. Also currently have ~728 Fico9 EQ score. Citi will not approve me for this card under any circumstances. No I did not burn Citi, i've never had a Citi card.
Interesting...
CitiBank shut down both my Costco and AAdvantage cards last year for no reason I can fathom - Costco is since paid off, but I'm still chipping away at AAdvantage. I don't really need that card back, however I should be able to apply for a new Costco Visa after paying everything? Right now, I'm just an authorized user on someone else's account. I've never included CitiBank in a bankruptcy...
@PittGuy1979 Here is a credit union credit that will give you 3% and for the first year 4% at wholesale clubs plus other catagories
Thanks AndySoCal
@PittGuy1979 apparently you didn't do enough research cos you would've found out that the minimum waiting time to get approved for the Citi Costco card after BK7 is 5yrs. The core cards are anywhere between 7-10yrs post BK7. Citi retail cards such as Macy's is precisely 18 months. I burned Citi up north of $13k between the AAdvantage and Prestige card, and about $50k on Macy's Amex and $8k ish on a BBY store card. I was approved again for Macys ($800 SL) and BBY ($2k SL) exactly at the 2yr post filing mark. The cards now have a current CL of $15k and $10k CL respectively. Based on my outcome, you should be good for an approval with Macys and BBY. As for Costco and other core Citi cards, you applied way too early.
