Costco Capital One Retail Card

I apped for this card today, despite my supposed gardening, and they told me the approval would be in the mail. No instant approval for the retail card. I don't see much in the forums about it but I have seen that it's been instant. Anyone have any insight? I'm going to call in for app status anyway though and recon if I need to.

Id be surpised if you were approved with your scores. It 9/10 an instant approval, so if they told you the "approval" would be in the mail, sounds like a denial approval too me. Its backed by Cap1, and I havent seen anyone approved with your scores, sorry. Just wait to see what actually shows up in the mail.

I was approved for my first Cap 1 card in 2009 with a score in the 620s. So, it is possible. I honestly have not kept up on Cap1 for the last year or so though so I am not sure how their approvals have been trending.

I understand that there is a difference between the cards but there is no difference in regards to risk taken by Cap1; so it is still possible. That is of course assuming that OP's credit report was similar to mine back then.

understand...but doing research myself here and on other forums to look at this a little deeper...I havent seen approvals with scores this low. Hopefully it  works out for the OP differently.

Re: Costco Capital One Retail Card

I didn't think positive for the approval either but considering my long standing good business with Capital One from car loans to a few credit cards and personal banking, I thought it might give me a boost where I needed it. My relationship with Cap One is close to spotless. We'll see. I've been surprised before by Cap 1.

I am also assuming that it will be a denial, I just don't want OP to lose all hope. Frankly, I have been away from the forum for about a year and a half and am getting back into it. I have no idea how the major creditors have been trending since about June 2014. Other than my own personal experiences, that is.

Back when I had Cap1, I had my best results by contacting their facebook page. It goes directly to their EO. I had a couple of pleasant conversations with their EOs, who did a manual review, and was given a CL increase every time. Now, I have never gone through them for an approval but it could very well work. The only reason I closed their card is because they wouldn't come close to matching my CLs from other cards. Then, I went through a point where I was stressed out abotu how many open cards I had so I consolodated CLs where I could and then closed downt eh cards I used the least. The only reason I am not kicking myself is because they are all positive closed accounts that will stay on my report for 10 years.
