Re: Couple of Chase Questions

I have never had anything in my offers on the online account. Really hoping they show a normal Freedom to me soon because I'm over 5/24 until I think August next year.

@Anonymous there a branch near you?  all of my cards inc a csp that was pc fuel were done @ branch >5/24.  approvals tend to disappear for ~30 days post app.  my banker calls me whenever a deal pops up that might be of interest, really pays to get a banker that also plays the game a bit

Re: Couple of Chase Questions

@Wave- I do have the Amazon chase Visa but so far it has not seemed to help me get any "your offers" to show up. I thought maybe I needed to wait a year or something.

@K......Regarding doing this 5/24 to prevent churners: That's easy. Do what Amex does. One bonus per account type. If that isn't good enough make a rule one bonus per 24 months. Or whatever they want. 5 in 24 months seems a bit.... strict?

@Bella.... yep. Amazon is not part of 5/24. There is a list somewhere around here but Disney, IHG, Amazon, Hyatt, AARP, and some others, I think a total of 6 or 7... that don't count. Never made sense to me. Why count some but not others? You'd think it would be all or none.... or at least all Cobranded no and all Main cards yes-or something like that.

@wanderer....I'm really wanting the Freedom card too. That's my main goal card right now. That means unless I can find a way to get an offer or branch pre-approval.... I'm stuck in the garden for 15 months or so. Smiley Sad Really wish I knew about this rule before getting some of my other (now closed) cards which are now hurting me in the 5/24 rule. Let me know if you have any luck.

Re: Couple of Chase Questions

Gardening for a bit might help.  How long since last new accounts?  I had an 8 month garden when I got my CSP, but was around 10/24.  I was just very busy so didn't even notice the gardening go by, but I imagine it doesn't take 8 months.  Maybe 3-6 might help.  Just a guess.  Now that I think about it, I previously saw the offer in my account but never bothered because I thought it wouldn't matter since I was over 5/24.  Then found out otherwise later.

Keep in mind that there are plenty of examples of people being approved for Chase cards that are > 5/24; 5/24 isn't a be all end all "rule" and is just a guideline.  I'm at 5/24 but get pre-quals for 3 Chase products every time I check.  People on this forum have reported being 11/24, even 30/24 and have still been approved for a Chase card.

Not so sure on this. If you have no preapproval of any kind, 5/24 is definitely hard coded into the applications. I haven't seen anyone get around it without a preapproval. So I would say it's a hard rule unless you are preapproved.

Keep in mind a human isn't deciding most applications....the program just auto rejects anyone who is over 5/24 if there's no preapproval 99% of the time.

Hi Djgrolyos,

This is a total guess, but maybe it was some kind of stipulation or part of Chase's contract to administer cards for these companies. Chase's 5/24 rule would sure cut down on people getting approved for an Amazon, IHG, Hyatt, AARP, etc. I'm sure these companies might not want to be limited by Chase's rule.
