Credit Card Application question

Hi, I just recently applied for two credit cards and I tried the shopping cart trick. Or at least I thought I did. When they asked for my social I put 000-00-1234. My actual last four* but it went through I was curious if that was the wrong thing to do.

Re: Credit Card Application question

I’m not an expert but I’m sure you probably shouldn’t have done that...if something asks for your SSN, you should probably type in your real SSN.

Sounds like a good way to trigger fraud alerts. Doesn't sound like a good idea at all.

Yes it was wrong. If a credit company asks for your SS Number you give them your full number or don’t apply. If they ask for last four you do that to pre apply. You never give false info on an actual application. That can give out fraud alerts on their end.

Re: Credit Card Application question

You’re be fine.. These are highly automated processes. I’m sure you still got an HP of your credit file and will probably get an verification letter from Commenity in about 10-14 days to verify your identity

How does that work? The SS Number is the unique national identifier. It is why data breaches are such big news.

Commenity cant just send John Q Public as an applicant name and a random string of 9 digits, and expect the credit bureau to respond.

At at least I hope not.
