Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I am thinking about applying for the Discover IT Secured card and or the Citi Bank Secured card. Both do not charge an annual fee and thats what I like. My question also remains what one is best. I travel Internationally between the US and Asia (Thailand and Japan) often (at least 4 times a year). I am 20 years old (and will be 21 in 4 days if that makes a difference.)
I have zero credit history other than I was added as an authorized user on my dads credit card with a 5800 dollar limit. United Mileage Plus Explorer in October.
I checked my preauthorization from all the major places, discover, JPM, BAC, USB, and I probably am forgetting another one or two I did yesterday. All with no offer except discover gave the secured card as a recommendation.
I can get co signers if it makes a difference.
Bank with Chase and Schwab.
I can deposit ~$3000 for a security balance but id prefer to deposit less.
My scores are here shown on credit karma. 732 transunion and 727 equifax if the image is down.
My dads credit is over 825 (he will co sign if it makes a difference).
No bankruptcy
My other report has 1 hard inquiry because equifax is Schwabs hard pull agency apparently.

I made the mistake positing in another section: But I am sure it was wrong to post over there.
Your age is actually relevant to your question because if you're under 21 you don't get prequalifications. (I'm pretty sure i read that somewhere here, someone will jump in and confirm).
You'd probably will be accepted for the regural discover it as well and given that it has no FTF and is accepted by the JCB network that may be a good choice.
If by any chance you're a student, they already accepted you for the student version and you don't know it. lol
Als your choice depends on why you want the card as well. Do you want it to primarily build your own credit? Or you want it to be functional in your everyday life and travels?
I'd say gather some info about the entry level cards and cold app for one to see what happens. 1 extra inquiry isn't a big deal.
If that doesn't work out then consider the secured route. Also if your dad co signs they'll probably give you anything.
Not a student.
I want something that will help build my credit first, and something I can use for travels second. Having a solid credit score is most important to me since I want to buy a house in the next couple years and really want the best interest rates then for a 15 year mortgage. My dad has 100k+ line of credit and cards across the board. Well I turn 21 in 4 days so Ill check my pre offers then.
I fly United all the time and want to eventually get my own explorer club card. Also want some other cards with good benefits too (keying up Barclays Arrival and Chase Sapphire Reserve? I think it was but ill have to ask my dad what one he said he liked) but I can't get them yet with a less than 2 year credit history anyway and a 720something score.

Edit: I asked and it was the preferred.
Score can be fine. Your limited history is a problem for a premium card.
If you fly united then you're certainly interested in what chase offers. Since you bank with them that would be a big plus and you probably won't have to wait more than a year to get there especially if you're a "good" customer but that's hard to define.
Just keep in mind the 5/24 rule of chase since the CSR would be great for you. Arrival isn't great in general.
Wait a week and check again. I still believe either way discover will probably approve you for unsecured card and it will also be useful in japan.
Also https://www.discover.com/free-credit-score/ here you can get your experian FICO 8 which is a much better indicator of where you stand credit wise.
I tried and here is what it said...

There are laws that prohibit credit card marketing and prescreening to anyone under 21. In addition, you can't use anyone else's income to qualify. Wait until your 21 before trying again.
Since you travel abroad, specifically Asia. I'd opt for the Citi MC first, since Discover isn't as widely accepted. Less so in Thailand.
But you might as well get both to help you build. That is if you go for secured cards on your own.
If you wait till 21, and get your Dad to co-sign. You can probably pick any unsecured Card you want. Making a travel card rather useful in your case.
Thanks all. Ill apply for the Citi Secured Card and Ill have my dad co sign on a card in the next few months. Since Only BAC and USB and WFC have cards with co signers avaliable what one is good? Since I can pretty much have my pick. But also my it will have to be one my dad doesn't already have right?
