No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
My apologies, I didn't realize back in the 90's you were in the credit repair business.
Although, the number of Macy's cards you've managed to accumulate for your wife should've tipped me off to your expertise.
I was going to ask you about that myself...
My score's been hovering around mid-700's for a little over a year now but I just can't seem to crack that Macy's formula.
Should I also threaten an EO with a bad attitude and lengthy emails peppered with questionable statistics?
Please let me know.

OP, I know it sucks, but I think Capital One really has a valid reason to be denying your wife for a card based on what you have told us.
She has an extremely short AAOA, numerous new accounts, and a very recent collection (only a year old). These really do look like red flags that suggest current or impending financial troubles when analyzed from an outside perspective (not that their suspicions are necessarily right).
Now, all of this isn't to say that her application isn't necessarily worth a recon. I love recons and sometimes the results can be a very big, pleasant surprise. But in this situation (and with credit in general, actually), I would recommend the "expect the worst, hope for the best" outlook.

Thanks. Thats my next project.
Im gonna agree with CC here..
Technically that Medcial Collection has to come off her reports! You have to wait 30 days before you canapply again, so I would work aggressively at getting that removed during the next 30 days. After its gone, try again... Sorry for the denial. These companies are so weird how they approve some folks like me who have 22 IIB derogs showing PLUS 2 PR (BK and paid Tax lien)...but wont approve your wife. Thats just crazy, so sorry!![]()

I often need to remind myseld that aaoa comes into play with approvals a lot more than often. Thats why someone with an aaoa acounts 7-10 years and lower fico than an aoaa 1 year high fico can yeild completely different results.
I agree. Plus, not to mention any other factors that each lender considers in their UW criteria.

hey...cool it..
No need to be condensending here. Lets ALL change the tone of this thread and try to be a little more polite and helpful...you being a smart *ss isnt..
OP...you know me well on these forums, and know I dont take haters lightly, Im sorry if things got turned around a little. I know it can be really upsetting and frustrating to be denied, when youre sure it was a given. I mean....who remembers a year ago my Cap1 rant and tears squirted across the room, huh?? LMAO!!!
Anyway...lets all just chill out on the OP, they have a right to be upset, and come to forums for help!
My guess is too many new credit cards within the past 12 months. I added 6 and that is the reason I have been getting rejected. I had gone for years with no credit cards and started to rebuild so I began adding cards. She probably needs to wait for 6-12 months and then she will have no problem.
Just for the record Pizza1, I was very polite and helpful to the OP.
I took the time to point out, all of which, may be very valid reasons for his wife's denial.
Including: Too many cards reporting balances and too high utilization, Cap One being very conservative, additional reasons for the 23 point drop.
His immature and defensive responses is what triggered the change in tone and jibs from other posters.
I routinely come here to help people and be helped, but I'm not going to baby someone just because they happen of ALL things...to get turned down.
Especially, when they continue to demonstrate such a foul attitude towards people who are trying to help them.
Respect and be respected.
Don't dish it out if you can't take it.
My wife and I have very similar profiles, I have 1 more store card than she does. She has no income, I have a lots and lots. She was approved for a 4K Chase card, I was denied for anything (even after recon).
It can be frustrating at times, but that's part of the process.
And I've found MyFico alerts to be mostly useless when it comes to showing what actually causes a change in credit score, only looking at your full report every time really can help with that, and even then it's not 100% since we don't have access to algorithms. I consider most of the sites to be "for enterntainment purposes only".
